When Scarlet realized Penelope was dumping Sean, her best friend, she was devastated. Penelope was the love of his life, the woman of his dreams. Scarlet knew how far her best friend was going to fall and she had to catch him. Scarlet became Sean’s rock and helped him through a very painful breakup, but her own hidden desires bubbled to the surface in the process. When they finally gave in and slept together, she thought it was the start of their new relationship. Unfortunately, Sean didn’t feel the same.Humiliated and heartbroken, Scarlet moved across the country and found what she least expected. She rekindled her damaged relationship with her brother, who she hadn’t spoken to in a year, and her brother’s best friend was attractive and interesting. Their relationship was natural and unforced, and she was immediately drawn to him. Would she be able to get over Sean, forget about him, by sleeping with Cortland, or would that just be another repeated mistake?
I received a copy of this book from the Author.
Sean and Scarlet are best friends. They've been strictly platonic since the beginning of their friendship. We begin the book with Scarlet and Penelope. Penelope is Sean's girlfriend, but she is going to break up with Sean and wanted Scarlet to be there for him after the fallout.
Scarlet refuses to let Sean fall apart. She becomes his rock and gives him all she has. One night their relationship changes. In the bar scene that proceeds this, I came to completely dislike Sean. Normally I love new book boyfriends, but he NEVER grew on me. He treated Scarlet like shit. I would have preferred him to show Scarlet the respect she deserves since she was his best friend. Yes, yes, I know you're saying if he wasn't a dick then there would have not been a story, but..... I just... I'm at a loss. I called him a douche in my notes. Especially what he did on her bed. I literally said out loud, "Are you f*coming kiddin' me?! Did he really just do that?!?" Yes Megan, he really did... *shaking my head*
Cortland... He was loveable. Now I rooted for him. I love books about younger sisters and big brother's best friend, but that's not this story. Some twists with it, but not the focus.
People always ask...Why not 5 stars and for me, it is always hard to pin down. I just didn't love Sean. I wanted Ryan to not talk to Sean. I wanted Sean to not be so awful with his actions. I had a hard time with Sean's love for both girls. So it was a combination of stuff. It was enjoyable. Part 2 will need to get me back on team Sean. I think from the description, I'm going to be fired up. Penelope... That cheatin' hoochie! Go add this to your tbr! Good job E.L. Todd!
