I received a copy of this story for an honest review for Amber's Reading Room.
Twenty-six year old Alexia ‘Lexi’ Stone is the proud owner of Java and Sweeties, a popular Louisiana coffee shop/bakery. Lexi’s blood, sweat, tears and complete lack of social life brought the local favorite to life and made it flourish. When Jude Delecroix, lead singer of epic rock band Bayou Stix, unexpectedly appears in Java and Sweeties Lexi is far from a screaming fan girl or thrilled owner. In reality she’d love to toss him out on his perfectly sculpted butt, but Lexi has the small problem of being unable to move. Jude and Lexi have a past and it’s definitely coming back to haunt her.
“I can’t speak. I cannot break the all consuming hold of the hazel eyes across the room. Those eyes that still haunt my dreams…every night.”
Jude Delecroix has fame, fortune and his pick of beautiful women. Unfortunately the only woman he wants, wants to punch him in the face (and does just that). Even after an eight year separation Lexi is ever present in Jude’s thoughts, the inspiration behind countless Bayou Stix hits. Jude’s plan to see Lexi one last time and force himself to forget her doesn’t go like he planned. Just as Jude is about to throw in the towel, a groupie sets him straight.
“That woman does not hate you. She might wish she did, but she does not hate you. Whatever happened, fix it. You’ll never get over it. You’ll never move on.”
I am a rock star story junkie, they are definitely a weakness of mine. I jumped into Alluring Turmoil wanting to love it but there were just a few things that made this a like not love read for me. The main issue being the many MANY times throughout Alluring Turmoil that both Lexi and Jude reference how much they hated each other over the eight years they spent apart. I had to wonder what could have been so awful to rip these two apart and make them hate each other when they’re so hot for each other they have sex less than a day after they reconnect. The original breakup incident in question doesn’t come out until well past the 75% mark and when it did I was like – Wait, that’s it? The reveal muddied my feelings for heroine Lexi, who up to that point I really liked. For the majority of Alluring Turmoil Lexi came off as a super smart, strong, independent woman and the reveal made me question her a bit.
Where Alluring Turmoil succeeds is in the numerous and detailed love scenes between Lexi and Jude. Saying the two characters generate some heat would be a total undersell. HOT, HOT, HOT. Author Skye Turner definitely knows how to get the blood flowing.
“His tongue sweeps past my lips, and our tongues war with each other as our teeth clash. There is no gentleness here. It’s as if we want to consume each other.”
Overall Alluring Turmoil was a fun read and is worth checking out. Alluring Turmoil is book one in the Bayou Stix series with book two, Alluring Seduction, focusing on Jude’s friend/former bed-mate Blue and his fellow band member Jessie. Blue showed some edge and a worldliness in her few appearances in Alluring Turmoil, so I’m really looking forward to seeing how she handles her own Bayou Stix man.
