Can't Go Home *Review*

Everyone has secrets; secrets meant to be kept—hidden away where nobody can discover the truth. Adrian O’Donnell (aka: Dre Donley) is no exception. Dre spins tales and half-truths like it’s his job, keeping the reality of his past buried deep within each lie he fabricates. On the other hand, Kathryn Howell is the exception to the rule. She’s a straight-shooter, a tell-it-like-it-is, no filter kind of girl.

Kathryn’s honesty and straightforwardness is the ultimate turn on for a guy like Dre. He’s never met someone so sincere, so full of truth and innocence. Their chemistry is unavoidable, their connection, magnetic. When Dre sets out to make Kathryn fall for him, he doesn’t realize the grave mistake he’s making. Kathryn’s strength and convictions do not falter, even for an irresistible man like Dre. When his past resurfaces, and the lies come tumbling forth, Kathryn must decide if his deceit and betrayal can be forgiven or if the damage is irreparable. Will the truth ultimately destroy the relationship that neither one of them could deny or even attempt to resist?

This novel is for mature readers only, due to language and sexual content.

Review for Amber's Reading Room. I was given this arc for an honest review! “Oh wow, hot stranger, should I take my panties off now or would you like to do it for me?” I really liked this book! It was a fun read. I loved the back and forth dialogue. It made me laugh so much sometimes. Kathryn was flippin’ hilarious. I loved this heroine. She is a character that I found refreshing! She said what was on her mind and I didn't feel like she played games. Dre… now he was super sexy. He had a secret. This we found out from the start. I was dying to know what that secret was and once I found out, I wasn’t overly surprised, however I just didn’t care by that point as I was swooning for Dre. He could be my stalker any day! Seriously, here is my daily schedule, my facebook, and my number…. The book was sexy… The steamy moments were wonderful. I think that this book had a lot of good qualities that made a complete story! It was a feel good story. I did like some twists in it and was surprised with some. I love books in dual POV and this one definitely worked well with a dual POV. Great job on this book! Put it on your TBR.

A Little Bit of Trouble *Review*

It's safe to say I've loved a lot. It's safe to say I've lost a lot. How do you move on from what you've lost, when what you've lost is such a big part of you it takes that part with it?
I lost my wife and my first born three years ago. Since then I've existed, but now I'm trying to live. I have a new family and new friends who actually love my daughter Amelia and I unconditionally.
They think I should move on, I disagree. Sure I'm all for meeting a nice female and having a little bit of fun but I can't give away a part of me that I lost three years ago.
And then I meet Loryn.
She brings color to my life, color I need but don't want. She frustrates me to no end and makes me as possessive as a caveman. But how do you keep someone who deserves to be loved when you know you can't love them yourself? She wants something from me that I can't give.
This is our story. Mine and Loryn's, with a lot of everyone else and just a little bit of trouble.

*Recommended for readers aged 17+ due to some sexual content and strong language*

A Little...

I was undecided on my rating...but I'm going with 3.5-4 stars

** ARC provided by author for an honest review **

I hated Loryn...her type of heroine is not my favorite. How many times could she just accept Lucas' flip floppy ways? I didn't like her whiny attitude, but he did treat her awful sometimes.

While I liked Lucas for the most part, there were moments when I was like... Seriously?!

In the beginning, Lucas' early thought processes were so much to follow. I had a bad case of ADD.

I wanted to see more of a relationship develop that included Amelia and instead it was more focused on the sex and drama happening in their relationship. I think the book could have been better developed without other characters' roles so it focused more on them.

My last thing is just grammar and editing. With the book being set in the US I think it would be best to have an American editor to help bridge the language difference. Whilst stuck out to me like crazy and boot instead of trunk. It's minor, but was enough to make me get pulled from the story.

Alluring Turmoil *Review*

Alexia Sloane is the twenty-six year old owner of the highly successful Louisiana coffee shop/bakery, Java and Sweeties. The past couple of years have been all she’s dreamed of and her business takes all of her focus, all of her heart.
Jude Delecroix is the lead singer of one of the most famous rock bands in the country, Bayou Stix, and the man who broke Lexi’s heart.
Lexi and Jude have a past.
When Jude comes back to town eight years after leaving to fulfill his lifelong dream of being a famous musician and comes face to face with Lexi, forces collide, old hurts are brought to the surface, and life as these two have been living it will never be the same.
There are two sides to every story, and what happens when the things you believed to be concrete suddenly crumble like ash and fade away?
What happens when two people afraid to face the past, become involved in the present? Can they hope for a future?
Welcome to Louisiana where humidity and passion are high and things are not always what they seem.
***Contains graphic sex and language. Not for young readers.***

I received a copy of this story for an honest review for Amber's Reading Room.

Twenty-six year old Alexia ‘Lexi’ Stone is the proud owner of Java and Sweeties, a popular Louisiana coffee shop/bakery. Lexi’s blood, sweat, tears and complete lack of social life brought the local favorite to life and made it flourish. When Jude Delecroix, lead singer of epic rock band Bayou Stix, unexpectedly appears in Java and Sweeties Lexi is far from a screaming fan girl or thrilled owner. In reality she’d love to toss him out on his perfectly sculpted butt, but Lexi has the small problem of being unable to move. Jude and Lexi have a past and it’s definitely coming back to haunt her.

“I can’t speak. I cannot break the all consuming hold of the hazel eyes across the room. Those eyes that still haunt my dreams…every night.”

Jude Delecroix has fame, fortune and his pick of beautiful women. Unfortunately the only woman he wants, wants to punch him in the face (and does just that). Even after an eight year separation Lexi is ever present in Jude’s thoughts, the inspiration behind countless Bayou Stix hits. Jude’s plan to see Lexi one last time and force himself to forget her doesn’t go like he planned. Just as Jude is about to throw in the towel, a groupie sets him straight.

“That woman does not hate you. She might wish she did, but she does not hate you. Whatever happened, fix it. You’ll never get over it. You’ll never move on.”

I am a rock star story junkie, they are definitely a weakness of mine. I jumped into Alluring Turmoil wanting to love it but there were just a few things that made this a like not love read for me. The main issue being the many MANY times throughout Alluring Turmoil that both Lexi and Jude reference how much they hated each other over the eight years they spent apart. I had to wonder what could have been so awful to rip these two apart and make them hate each other when they’re so hot for each other they have sex less than a day after they reconnect. The original breakup incident in question doesn’t come out until well past the 75% mark and when it did I was like – Wait, that’s it? The reveal muddied my feelings for heroine Lexi, who up to that point I really liked. For the majority of Alluring Turmoil Lexi came off as a super smart, strong, independent woman and the reveal made me question her a bit.

Where Alluring Turmoil succeeds is in the numerous and detailed love scenes between Lexi and Jude. Saying the two characters generate some heat would be a total undersell. HOT, HOT, HOT. Author Skye Turner definitely knows how to get the blood flowing.

“His tongue sweeps past my lips, and our tongues war with each other as our teeth clash. There is no gentleness here. It’s as if we want to consume each other.”

Overall Alluring Turmoil was a fun read and is worth checking out. Alluring Turmoil is book one in the Bayou Stix series with book two, Alluring Seduction, focusing on Jude’s friend/former bed-mate Blue and his fellow band member Jessie. Blue showed some edge and a worldliness in her few appearances in Alluring Turmoil, so I’m really looking forward to seeing how she handles her own Bayou Stix man.

Happy reading.

Forgotten In Darkness *Review*

After an unjustified two-century stint in purgatory, Scimitar Magus Dakar returns to the human realm, renewing his eons-old curse. Either he or the woman he loves must murder the other within days of meeting in each new lifetime. To break the vicious cycle, he must kill her before she strikes her deathblow, something he's never done in the past.
Archaeology grad student Shay McGinnis suffers a near-death attack in pursuit of a piece of Scimitar Magi lore. But did the magnificent warrior who pinned her to the wall injure her or the daemon he fought? In her search for answers, she draws the attention of both an ancient evil sorcerer and the warrior Dakar. The attraction between her and Dakar is instant, and for Shay confusing. She wants to be with him, but intuition equates him with death. Not random death. Hers.

Will this be the lifetime they break the curse before they are murdered by an age-old enemy or worse kill each other yet again?

I received a copy of this story for an honest review.

For two centuries Scimitar Magus Dakar has toiled in the treacherous Middle Realm battling daemons.
When the Gods pull Dakar back into the real world, he knows it’s only a matter of time before the curse that has plagued him across time restarts. The curse, to find his reincarnated soul-mate, fall madly in love/lust, and then have one kill the other within two weeks of their first meeting.

Archeology student Shay has turned the childhood stories of the Scimitar Magi, immortal warriors for the Egyptian Gods, which her mother used to tell her into her PhD thesis. In a desperate attempt to confirm their existence and make her thesis legit, Shay travels to a church in South America. What she finds instead is a flesh and blood Magus mid battle with a very nasty daemon. When that Magus turns his attention to Shay, the familiarity he radiates is anything but comforting.

“He still didn’t meet her gaze. Nor did he make any effort to explain why she remained immobilized between him and the wall. His profiled lips thinned. Situation status: Deep shit.”

Will Dakar be able to jog Shay’s memories of their lives together without ending up dead by her hands?  Can the existing Magi brotherhood convince Dakar to rejoin their ranks and serve out his purpose in the protection of the Gods? Will the evil Djoser come to power and claim Shay for his queen?

Straight up, if you are not a solid paranormal fan you may find this a challenging read. Author Zoe Forward throws lore fast and furious including some terms that if you don’t review the glossary at the end of the story before jumping in, you may find yourself scratching your head. Hashishin, akhrian,
bochnori, seichim, sesen… these are just a few terms that made me pause and recheck the glossary.

“Djoser wanted what he always sought when in the Human Realm – the Trifecta: the Necherophes wesekh, Anukarati amulet, and the sword of Neith. Three items each with unique qualities that, if brought together and wielded by one user, would grant him power equal only to the gods.”

That said, I am a paranormal fan girl and once I locked down the glossary and found my groove with the story I really started to enjoy it. The concept of a tragic couple toyed with by the Gods, forced to fall in love only to have kill each other than reincarnate and repeat the cycle over hundreds and thousands

of years – it’s actually pretty cool. The author jumps straight into action sequences on page one and does not let up for the entire read. The contrast between Dakar’s ancient warrior and Shay’s modern independent woman make them great foils. There are teams of interesting secondary characters from Dakar’s fellow Magi, to a demonic reincarnated pharaohs, mercenaries for hire, and more. All in all I really enjoyed checking this story out and think other paranormal fans would have fun with it too.

Forgotten In Darkness is a follow-up to Dawn of a Dark Knight, which is the story of Prime Magus Ashor and doctor/healer Kira. Though Forgotten in Darkness can be read as a stand-alone story, I think I would have appreciated checking out Dawn of a Dark Knight first. I will be picking that story up and I’ll be on the lookout for any follow-up Scimitar Magus books.

Happy reading.

In a classic male move, he grabbed the bottom of his tank and lifted it to wipe the

dampness from his face. My ravenous eyes snapped to his stomach. I was greeted by one,

two, three…eight, eight perfectly chiseled abdominal muscles. The elusive eight-pack—

I had heard rumors of its existence, seen pictures even, but I’d never encountered the

phenomenon in person. I reached up and pinched my arm to ensure I was not dreaming.

Ouch! Nope, not dreaming. My fingertips itched to touch him, to trace each and every

line and crevice—suddenly a black wall of cotton obstructed my view. Son of a bitch, it was

criminal. The man should not be allowed to wear a shirt…ever.

I’m a bundle of nerves as I step out into the night air. It’s hard to not see him. He’s leaning

against his truck. His back is to me and I almost don’t think he knows I am coming until he turns

around to face me. My heart drops in my chest as I look into his eyes. We say nothing for a

minute. We’re taking this time to rememorize each other, this time without the loud music and

bright lights of the club. His hand reaches up and brushes against my cheek. I shudder trying to

control myself. I missed his touch so much. I close my eyes praying this isn’t some dream but I

open them and he’s here with his hand still on my cheek.

“I miss you Hope.” He whispers. I won’t cry. I’m telling myself that. I’ll kick my own ass if I cry. I

won’t be weak.

“I miss you too,” I whisper almost inaudibly. We go back to not speaking. I can’t believe I’m

standing outside in front of him. In front of the man who completely melts my heart. “Can you

forgive me?”

He leans in closing his mouth over mine and takes charge blowing my mind. I kiss him fiercely.

“I can’t think of you being anyone else’s but mine Hope.” He says between kisses.

A Window to Love

Melissa Bennette, a young beautiful woman who has tragically lost her parents in a devastating plane crash, is set to spend another Christmas holiday alone until one night as she gazes into the dressed up holiday windows of New York City and her path crosses with the gorgeous man of her dreams.

Evan Duke is the world's top male model, dreamed about and wanted by women everywhere, but he only has eyes for her.

This erotic tale of twists, turns and surprises stretches from twinkling lights of New York to the sun drenched beaches of Santa Monica to the art world of Paris. With each destination, the layers of their lives and closely held secrets fall away as a beautiful love grows out of the weeds of self doubt and heartbreak.

This book contains sexually explicit material and is intended for adult readers only.

I received a copy of this book for an honest review for Amber's Reading Room.

Take one heartbroken heiress and one world famous male model, throw in a heaping helping of bedroom time with splashes of Christmas spirit and you get A Window to Love by Fifi Flowers. This erotic romance puts a new spin on boy meets girl and I dare you to not fall for the sweet and sexy leads.

For the first time in the seven years since her parent’s tragic death, Melissa Camille Bennette is braving the streets of Manhattan to try to find her holiday spirit. Checking out the glossy and gorgeous department store windows had been a long standing holiday tradition for her family, but now those windows just leave her feeling lost.

“Now I am alone with only my memories of bundling up in scarves, mittens, hats and sipping steaming cups of hot cocoa as my parents, and I stood exactly where I stand now excitedly discussing every detail of the masterfully created miniature wonderlands. There was no excitement this year; there was no one to ooh and aah with, to dream with, to share the special spirit of the holiday.”

Enter model Evan Drake. When Melissa spots a picture of Evan and makes an off-handed comment about what she’d love to do to him, he just happens to be close enough to call her on it. Heat ignites between the two and they quickly agree to spend the night together. What was meant to be one night of pleasure quickly engulfs the pair, leaving each wanting much more physically and maybe even emotionally.

“It’s crazy, but I find myself wanting to pleasure Melissa until she is completely consumed with me. I wanted her obsessed with me. I wanted her to beg me to never leave her because I didn’t want to be without her.”

The course of true love has always been a bumpy one and it only gets bumpier when it starts with a one-and-done booty call. Can Evan convince Melissa his tabloid worthy relationship history is a thing of the past? Can Melissa trust Evan with her heart after keeping it on lock-down for so long?

I don’t know what I was expecting jumping into A Window to Love, but I was pleasantly surprised with a well written erotic romance that managed to put the hot and heavy front and center and kept it balanced with just the right amount of sweetness. Melissa and Evan both have back stories that could make them seem a little larger than life, but Flower keeps them grounded and realistic. I enjoyed getting the POV of both leads and it made me cheer for them to find a happy ever after together.

One small issue keeps me from rating this higher. Both Melissa and Evan occasionally like to slip French into their conversations. Each has a legitimate reason, Melissa having some French heritage and Evan being an international model, but as I invested in the couple I found that it would pull me out of certain scenes. Some may like it, it just wasn’t my thing.

“Oh mon dieu. Please. Pleeeeease stop torturing moi. I beg you, Evan.”

All in all A Window to Love is a very original and solid steamy read that corresponds with the season, definitely worth checking out. Flowers is a first time author and the quality of A Window to Love has me impressed. I think you will be too.

Happy reading.

Santa (Maybe)

What if you got a second chance with the one who got away?

Mark Jameson has every reason to be a Scrooge this Christmas. He's been fired from his job and there is a deranged woman stalking him. Just when it seems his life couldn't get any crazier, he unexpectedly reconnects with his high-school crush. The problem? She thinks he's somebody else.

Madeleine Morgan is a successful divorce lawyer and devoted single mother to six-year-old Emily. But when Madeleine has an unexpected run-in with a Santa impersonator, her well-ordered existence suddenly gets a lot more interesting.

This sweet romantic comedy is standard novella length: 27,000 words. PG-13 for mature themes and language. Sex is off-page.

I can gladly sum this novella up in three words – COMPLETELY FREAKIN’ ADORABLE. In Santa (Maybe)

you’ve got a down on his luck good guy whose lifelong crush can’t recognize him beyond his mall Santa

costume and a heart-broken single mom too full of self-doubt to notice an opportunity for true love. In

less than the time it took for my daughter to watch her favorite Disney Jr. show, I got to read about two

great characters falling in love during Christmas and getting a solid HEA. Extra bonus, when I picked the

story up from Amazon it cost me $0.00. WIN.

Growing up with the nickname of Matchstick because of his scrawny physique, Mark knew he had zero

chance of catching the eye of his best friend’s older sister Madeline. As years pass Mark transforms his

body but his mind can never forget Madeline. After rejecting a clients unwanted advances Mark finds

himself without a job and depending on temp work as a mall Santa to make rent. What should feel like

the end of the world turns into a golden opportunity when Madeline and her daughter Emily show up

for a meet and greet with Santa. Mark won’t waste the opportunity to make his one real Christmas wish

come true.

“He reached out with his foot and nudged the door closed. He wasn’t going to kiss her, but he’d make

damn sure she realized she wanted him to.”

Madeline dedicated herself to her marriage only to find her husband dedicated himself to a whole lot of

other women. Struggling to get through the holiday she’s caught off guard when the mall Santa makes

a pass at her…and she actually wants to accept it. This guy feels comforting and safe, but he’s hiding

something. Can she trust him and his motives long enough to give herself a second chance at happiness?

“And that was the moment. The moment when every doubt she had about him melted away.

Madeline still questioned Joe’s claim that the man had spent the last decade madly in love with her,

but, if true, she was one lucky woman.”

Some people are not fans of novellas. I am not one of those people. Sometimes I need a novella like

others need a shot of espresso, a tasty little jolt of story energy. Santa (Maybe) is a great holiday pick

me up. I will definitely be re-reading this to keep me in the holiday spirit and I not-so-secretly hope

author Bex may revisit Mark and Madeleine in future stories.

Happy reading.
