How To Reprimand Your Rock Star by Mina Vaughn

In this fun and saucy romance novel, all-star college basketball player Thea dominates on the courts—and off—with a rock star who is determined to win her over.

Thea is a star basketball player at UConn on track to be Rookie of the Year. That is, if she can stay focused on the game. Lately that hasn’t been going so well, as her knee has been bothering her. But that’s not the only thing on her mind…

Ever since rock star Keaton Lowe surprised her in the girl’s locker room, Thea can’t stop thinking about him. On top of his status and enticing ways, he seems to know everything about her. But some of his actions cross the line, and Keaton needs to be punished. Will Thea keep her head in the game, or get distracted by her other favorite pastime—reprimanding her rock star?

I received a copy of this story from NetGalley for an honest review.

Not a lot of authors can successfully blend sweet romance with wild kink but author Mina Vaughn does it with great success in How To Reprimand Your Rock Star. This book was a blast and I hope I can convince you to give it a chance.

Thea Papastathopoulos - or Pops to her teammates - has major skills on the basketball court. But just when her team needs her most, Thea is begins to loss focus and confidence. That is until a cocky rock star catches her off guard...

Keaton Lowe is the lead singer of legendary rock group Trickster City. Known as the Heartbreaker of
the Century, Keaton is thrown for a loop when he stumbles on an athletic Greek goddess naked in a college locker room. In the past Keaton would have dominated a beauty like this but there's something in her energy that shakes him, something that makes him want to experience something different, something that makes him want to submit to HER...

What I Loved: How To Reprimand Your Rock Star was simply a fun and entertaining read that I was able to finish in just one sitting. Likeable characters, snappy dialogue, and lightening quick pacing kept me hooked and invested in both the story and the characters. A small warning – Thea and Keaton’s romantic and emotional relationship happens to be based in BDSM. That said Author Mina Vaughn handles the BDSM aspect of the couple in such a refreshing manner I never saw it as shocking, it was just part of the characters and I loved them more for acknowledging their personal needs. One of the big positives for me is that How to Reprimand Your Rock Star has a pretty sweet role reversal from many of the BDSM themed books I’ve read lately. Let’s just say Thea is as far from the shrinking violet naïve college girls in many of those Dom/Sub books as you can get.

What I Didn’t Love: I really don’t have much to complain about with How To Reprimand Your Rock Star. The only thing that may have pushed this to a 5 star read for me is a little bit more insight into Keaton – who he was before stumbling upon Thea, his feelings on their developing relationship, how he saw their future, etc. Overall this is a well written rock star romance with an energizing wild streak.

Favorite Quotes:

“Because you didn’t sing along. Not from the first note. You looked in my eyes, all fire and curls, and gave me hell. Fuck, Thea, I liked it.”

“I dream of you every night, Goddess. I know you think I’m a bit of a cad, and I was. There’s just something about you I can’t shake, something that make me want only you.”

“A singer helped me find my voice, and a player abandoned his game for a different kind of victory.”

Hot rock star that is also loveable and sweet? Check. Strong heroine that learns to embrace her own power? Check. Story I would easily recommend? Check. How To Reprimand Your Rock Star is a good time and worth picking up. I have never read Mina Vaughn’s work before but I will definitely be adding some more of her stuff to by TBR.

Happy reading.

Dark Paradise by Angie Sandro

Mala LaCroix has spent her whole life trying to escape her destiny. As the last in a long line of "witch women," she rejects the notion of spirits and hoodoo and instead does her best to blend in. But when she finds a dead body floating in the bayou behind her house, Mala taps into powers she never knew she had. She's haunted by visions of the dead girl, demanding justice and vengeance.

DEADLY SECRETS

Landry Prince has always had a crush on Mala, but when Mala discovers his sister, murdered and marked in some sort of Satanic ritual, he wonders if all the rumors about the LaCroix family are true. Yet after Mala uses her connection to the spirit world to identify his sister's killer, he starts to form his own bond to her . . . a very physical one. As they move closer to each other and closer to the truth, Mala and Landry must risk everything—their families, their love, and even their lives.

I received a copy of this story for an honest review from NetGalley.

Are you a young adult fan looking for something with a little more edge? Dark Paradise may be just right for you. Young love meets voodoo murder mystery in this ambitious debut.
Malaise "Mala" LaCroix has dealt with stares and whispers her entire life. Not only is she the daughter of the town prostitute, but every woman in her bloodline is rumored to be a powerful witch. All Mala wants to do is escape but when she finds a dead girl in the swamp of her family home she knows things are going to go from bad to worse. Little could she imagine that the worse would included being haunted by one very angry dead girl...

Landry Prince has fought his romantic feelings for Mala LaCroix for years. When his sister Lainey is found brutally murdered on the LaCroix property, Landry's attraction quickly spirals to rage. Landry must decide if Mala is the culprit or the key to finding out what really happened to Lainey. He begins a dangerous cat and mouse game that spins out of control when supernatural forces play their hand.

What I Loved: Angie Sandro has a very vivid and emotional writing style that made it not only easy for me to visualize Mala and Landry but also feel the tension and sparks passing between them. Sandro provided POV's for both characters and I felt that went a long way in helping me connect to the characters and care about the outcome of the story.

What I Didn’t Love: Dark Paradise starts out as a engaging and suspenseful YA. Then right around the 75% mark – BAM – it switches to something much more brutal and I felt like I was reading a completely different story. I actually had to reread the ending several times to make sure I understood where the story veered off to. Please be warned that Dark Paradise has a massive cliff-hanger and does leave a lot of unanswered questions.

Favorite Quotes:

“My body tingles like I’ve stuck my finger is a light socket. Energy pours off me and zaps into Landry. I’ve never felt so alive or so turned on by a guy in my entire life. I hate it.”

“Rage surrounds my body – a tainted black aura hovering above my skin that crackles with raw energy. Hate throbs. Burning and consuming like fire until only the ashes float through my mind.”

“Can’t it be enough that I want you? That I need the warmth of your arms to hold back the memories?”

While it is not without its issues, Dark Paradise is an intriguing debut to a series that has a lot of promise. I would recommend to fans of Young Adult books like Beautiful Creatures or Mortal Instruments.

Dark Paradise will be followed by Dark Sacrifices and Dark Redemption, both of which I plan on checking out and reviewing.

Happy reading.

When You Are Mine - Character Interview With Cam

Forever is a heartbeat away . . .

Kerris Moreton knows how to make things work. Bounced from foster home to foster home as a kid, she adapted; when opportunity arose, she thrived. Now, about to open her own business and accept a marriage proposal, Kerris is ready to build the life she's always wanted. The only thing missing? A passionate connection with her would-be fiancé, Cam. Kerris wants to believe that sparks are overrated-until Walsh Bennett lights her up like the Fourth of July.

. . . but what about love?

As one of the East Coast's most eligible bachelors, Walsh enjoys financial independence, fulfilling work with his family's nonprofit, and plenty of female attention. But lately he's been distracted by the one woman he can't have. Lovely to look at and even sweeter to know, Kerris is the soul mate Walsh never thought he would find. The problem is, his best friend found her first . . .

Hi, everybody! It's Kennedy Ryan. I hope many of you have read my debut WHEN YOU ARE MINE. I have a slightly spoiler-ish treat for you today, so if you haven't read yet, proceed with caution! It doesn't give away much, but it does allude to a few things! I get questions all the time about one character in particular, Cameron Mitchell. We never hear his point of view in the book, but one blogger, Ash from Morning Books & Coffee, crawled inside his head and dug around. She found some fascinating answers. I wanted as many readers as possible to hear his side of the story, so she agreed to share with some of the bloggers I love! Thanks to my blogger friends for passing it on to you!

Q&A w/Cam

Ash:  Hey, Cam. How are you doing today?

Cam: Good, considering. Sorry. Don't mean to sound pathetic. Just been through a lot lately with…well, with everything that has happened.

Ash: You have been through a lot lately, and you had a difficult childhood. How do you think it impacted you to become so well educated and so honest and respectful as you got older?

Cam: Wow. Not many people have called me respectful. I need a second to absorb that one! My childhood was hell. I don't want to go into all the details, but let's just say foster care was a big step up for me. Kristeene Bennett and the Walsh Foundation taught me not to use my past as an excuse and taught me to take advantage of every opportunity. My education, painting - everything that is worth anything in my life, I owe to that woman. A lot of people do.

Ash:  What is the first thing you notice about a woman?

Cam: I should say the eyes, right? That's the PC answer. It's true, I DO notice the eyes because growing up like I did, you learn to read people in an instant. And the eyes are the fastest way to scope a person. But the "player" answer? I'm an ass man!

Ash: What was it like when you first saw Kerris? What was going thru your mind?

Cam: She's gorgeous, of course. Any guy would notice that first, but there was something about her I just resonated with right away. She and I have very similar pasts, and as beautiful, as sweet as she was, she didn't let people in. I got that. I'm pretty guarded myself. She wouldn't even go out with me for months, and we were just friends. Guess that made me feel like the king of the world when she finally did say yes. I thought I was really lucky she didn't listen to everybody telling her what a player I was. I mean, I was a player, but that was before I met Kerris.

Ash: Can you tell us a little about your friendship with Walsh when you were younger before Kerris came along?

Cam: That son of a...sorry. Walsh and I aren't exactly on the best terms right now. Probably won't be again. I didn't have many people in my life I could trust. Pretty much, just Walsh and his family. I told Walsh things about my childhood that I...that I never thought I would share with anyone. We've been like brothers since I was twelve years old. I never thought he would...never suspected he was as low and conniving as he is. I don't care how many orphans he rescues or all the good he does all over the world, someone who goes for his best friend's girl is not a good guy. I wouldn't trust him as far as I could throw him now. That's all you need to know about what is left of my friendship with that dude.

Ash: Some haven't read your story yet, and may not know what I'm talking about when I ask you this next question, so I'll be careful with how I word it. We all understand how upset you were when you saw for yourself that there really was something between Kerris and Walsh, but some of us had a hard time with your reaction later that night. You remember what I'm talking about? Do you have anything to say about that?

Cam: You would ask that question. It's hard for me to address something so sensitive and private. Something that's supposed to be between just me and Kerris, but I'll try. I don't know that it'll make people understand or like me any more, but at least I'll get to give my side of the story. I'll start by saying I know it was a douche move. When I saw...what I saw...trying to stay spoiler-free for folks...something kind of snapped inside me. Kerris and I promised that we would be each other's only, and she couldn't have chosen a better way to betray me. I guess in a way I needed to remind myself and to remind her that she was my wife. On some level I knew she wouldn't refuse me because of how bad she felt about what I saw. Was that right? In hindsight, no, and I still see how that may have caused more damage in our relationship. In the moment, it felt like the only way I could re-establish myself as her husband. Sex is...complicated for me. I won't use the abuse I experienced as an excuse. It's not. I'm still figuring out how it has affected me. I kind of thought, in some ways, it hadn't affected me, but maybe it did. It's still something I don't feel comfortable talking about, so don't bother asking me to elaborate. Let's just say If I had to do it over, I would handle things differently. But as I've learned with so many other mistakes I've made, you don't get do overs. You only get do betters, and that's what I'm trying to do, starting with the family I want more than anything.

Ash: Can you tell me a little bit of where your state of mind is today? Like how are you doing with your marriage and everything that has happened?

Cam: We're moving forward. We've all lost a lot over the last year. I wish I was the kind of guy who could let bygones be bygones, but I'm not. I feel sick every time I'm in the same room with Walsh, and I'm not sure how we can get past that. Kerris and I...we're trying. Maybe I had it right when I was a kid. Maybe you can't trust people. Maybe everyone's out to hurt you. Maybe you shouldn’t let people in if this is what happens. What's the point?

Ash:  Can you tell me where you think you will be in 5 years?

Cam: In five years, I hope to be on my third or fourth art exhibit. Paris, New York. I want my art in museums all over the world, but I also want it on bridges and the sides of buildings where anybody can see it and be inspired by it. The streets have always been my Louvre. The one thing I want even more than my art? A family. Kerris and me, we're on the same page about that. We want to put all the shit...can I say shit here? Sorry! Can you bleep that, or whatever? We want to put all the stuff from the last few months behind us and focus on making the kind of family we never had ourselves. We both grew up in hell. My kids won't have that. If that's the only thing I have to show for myself in five years, I'd be okay with that.

Book 2, LOVING YOU ALWAYS, is out October 7!

Kennedy Ryan grew up in North Carolina, but loves living in Atlanta with her husband (tall – check, dark – check – handsome – check), and her handful of a son. Though she knew, like writers often do, that she was supposed to tell stories, the road to fulfillment has been paved with “some of everything” jobs that kept her family eating and living indoors. With her degree in Journalism from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (Go Tar Heels!), she has focused on writing for non-profit organizations and even doing some non-fiction ghost writing. Only in the last few years did she start telling stories again.

In addition to being a devoted wife and mom, she’s also a passionate advocate for families living with Autism. Her son was diagnosed at the age of two, and she has made it her mission to help as many families as possible find the resources and services they need. 25% of her royalties will go toward her national charitable partner Talk About Curing Autism and Myles-A-Part, her foundation serving Georgia families.

His gaze is piercing through me. He tilts his head and arcs one brow in silent question, Need any help?
I almost imperceptibly nod my head.
Mystery man speaks to his company, who’s leaning with his back against the bar. The other guy whips his head around to look at me and is obviously not agreeing with his friend’s intention to intervene. He disregards his friend’s comment and comes over to Nick and me. He walks right up to us to place a secure arm around my waist, tucking me gently into his side and turning slightly, so I’m immersed in his one-arm embrace. His breath strokes over my temple while he speaks. “I’m taking her for a dance.” His deep, throaty voice which exudes sensuality fits him perfectly in his tailored suit. The guy glowers at Nick, daring Nick to defy him. His intimidating stance has Nick backing off instantly, and he leads us both away with his arm firmly holding my middle.
I don’t even look back. My eyes are glued to this man. My mouth quirks up in a smile as he shows me an enthralling sidelong grin.
Just as I’m about to ask his name, he halts. “You’re welcome,” he whispers the words against my ear. And again, he strolls away.

Wicked Flames by Sharon Kay *Review*

Gin Bonham lives with a dark secret. Born with an ability she never wanted, she builds her life around science and logic, running from the terror she is capable of causing. When sexy stranger Mathias spots her on a dance floor and cuts in, he leads Gin in a sensual rhythm that continues long after the music stops. But Mathias hides the fact that he knows exactly what she can do: in the deepest recesses of her mind lurks the power to manipulate fire. Destiny is coming for her and it doesn’t care if she’s ready or not.

Mathias possesses tracking and espionage skills so extraordinary that his fellow Lash demons call him The Hunter. Pursue and interrogate. He never fails. When he is tasked with coaxing Gin to work with the Lash demons against a common enemy, he relishes the challenge. But meeting her awakens a new, primal drive that pulls him toward her even as his tactics break her heart.

Failing to win Gin’s cooperation is not an option. But she is determined to flee, putting thousands of miles between her and any other supernatural creatures, including Mathias. Can she cool the charred embers of her emotions enough to forgive Mathias and embrace what she was meant to become? Or will her ability explode into something more than she can control?

If you are a paranormal romance fan and have not checked out Sharon Kay's Solsti Prophecy books (Wicked Wind & Wicked Waves) you are missing out. Full of action, romance, and mystery, this series has me hooked and keeps me on my toes. Wicked Flames: Solsti Prophecy #3 is a great addition to the series and has helped expand Sharon Kay's very unique and wonderful universe.

Gin Bonham is a woman with a plan and that plan has nothing to do with fighting monsters and saving the world according to some silly ancient prophecy that her sisters Nicole and Brooke have bought into. Unfortunately for Gin the Solsti Prophecy is proving to be very, very real and there are multiple forces determined that she has a part to play.

Mathias is the legendary Hunter, a ruthless bloodhound who can find anyone anywhere and then "persuade" them as needed. Gin Bonham is his latest target but when professional and personal lines blur, Mathias will have to determine what comes first - his duty or his heart.

What I Loved: After seeing her sisters accept their power and responsibility so easily in Wicked Wind and Wicked Waves, it was refreshing to see Gin push back. She had dreams of her own and I liked her questioning the reality of the scary world being thrust upon her. Another big like is that Wicked Flames starts out fast and never eases up on the pace. Author Sharon Kay has mastered exciting fight scenes that keep you on edge and cheering for the good guys.

What I Didn't Love: There is A LOT of stuff going on in Wicked Flames. The story is told in multiple POV's and at times I felt that the romance between Gin and Mathias was more of a subplot that the main focus of the story. I would have liked a little more time spent on the pair and a little less on the possible missing Solsti and the scheming villains.

Favorite Quotes:

"She's a Solsti. She doesn't get to opt out. I could give an elf's ass about whether or not she wanted or asked for this. She has a part to play."

"He'd made her happy. And that made him want to pound his chest even more than the scorching hot fuck session they'd just had. He didn't know what that feeling was about or where it came from, but it settled over him like a cloak."

"She was torn between wanting to never to see him again, telling him off, or making him grovel for every word out of his sinful mouth. Every smile. Every kiss... Damn him.

"Power or no power, you're unique. You're capable of amazing shit. And I want you to work with me. I want you."

Wicked Flames is a solid addition to the Solsti Prophecy Series. I'm a big fan of Sharon Kay and the universe of characters and lore that she has created is impressive. Fans of the series will be happy with this newest addition. Wicked Flames should not be read as a stand alone. If you have not read Wicked Wind or Wicked Waves you will be completely lost. Do yourself a favor and go check out the first two books

On Wicked Ground: Solsti Prophecy #4 will release in January 2015 and will focus on the missing Solsti sister Alina and Lash Watcher Caine. I'm looking forward to discovering the mystery behind Alina's separation from her sisters and seeing what happens when they finally reunite.

Happy reading.

Bound by Prophecy (Prophecy #3) by Stevie J. Cole *Blog Tour*

Gavin Hunter had said Brooke Davis belonged only to him, but he had no idea exactly how true that statement was. The moment he plummeted from grace he bound himself to her and created a need for her to exist. For three-thousand years he had been able to resist the urge to take an unmarked mortal’s life, but he lost all control when he fell for Brooke. Out of rage Gavin broke an agreement that was never be broken and set a series of events in motion that nothing could stop.

Brooke would be forced to witness things that would test her love for Gavin. Could she accept the fact that the “man” she’d fallen in love with was the very creature that had damned mankind, seduced sin from woman’s heart, and who was also a murderer of innocence?

Hunted by demons, sought after by the devil; Gavin would do anything to protect her – even if it meant the entire world would be slaughtered to keep her hidden. Being forced to fight his internal demon, he would learn just how tempting Brooke was and would have to learn to control his innate need to kill.

An eternal creature faced with an end. A mortal trapped by fear and love. Two souls bound by a prophecy that only one person knew the ending to. They say love has waged many wars, but the battle stemming from the love Gavin and Brooke shared was one that would bring death, destruction, and eternal night to everything in existence.

I received a copy of this story for an honest review.

I have to write this review very carefully because the first few attempts to review Bound by Prophecy (Prophecy #3)  I've caught myself including spoilers and the conclusion to the Prophecy Series should not be ruined. If you've already been introduced to the struggle of Gavin and Brooke, I think you're going to enjoy the solid end to their journey. If you have not picked up any of the Prophecy Series and are paranormal romance fan, do yourself a favor and get acquainted with Stevie J. Cole's fantatstic books ASAP.

What I Loved: I have a soft spot for epic love stories that have an edge of tragedy. A couple destined to love each other but their love damns not only them but the entire world – SOLD. The chemistry between Gavin and Brooke is strong and despite the dire consequences of their romance, I couldn’t help but root for them to have some level of happiness even if it was fleeting.

What I Didn’t Love: The Prophecy Series books are not kind to casual readers. You have to pay attention to the details and there were a few times I caught myself going back and double checking parts I had already read to make sure I hadn't missed something. This won't be a problem for lore junkies.

Favorite Quotes:

“Angel, demon, damned – I didn’t care anymore. All I cared was that I knew whatever cross he bore I now bore, and I had unfaltering faith that he would keep me safe.”

“Love. You Love her? Damned by the strongest emotion. The greatest wars have spawned from that wretched word.”

“Although eternity is nothing more than a cycle, we each determine our fate in the very beginning, and as unfortunate as it may seem – the devil’s fate never changes.”

Bound by Prophecy (Prophecy #3) should not be read as a stand-alone.  If you haven’t already read Bound by Sin (Prophecy #1) and Bound to the Fallen (Prophecy #2) you will need to check them out before starting Bound by Prophecy (Prophecy #3) or you will be lost.

Paranormal romance fans these is a series worth getting caught up in.

Happy reading.

Oh, what to say?

I love writing (obvious since I'm on here, right?) I don't have a specific genre - I just write whatever story manifests its self inside my brain.

Writing is like therapy. There is nothing else that I can lose myself in the way I can a book - the way a well written story can take you away from reality and leave you in a dazed state once you've finished... that is unbelievable. I can only hope that whoever reads my work will be sucked into the little world I've created on the pages.</ span>

Aside from writing, I love sloths and mythology. I kind of have a thing for vampires, because let's face it, something about the fact that they have to fight the urge to bite your neck and drain the life from you is rather sexy. I have an irrational fear of the zombie apocalypse. I honestly cannot imagine a more horrifying way to go than by being ripped to shreds by a mass of mumbling, decaying, and oozing corpses with clicking teeth. Ugh! I just shuddered typing it.

Now the boring basics: I grew up in the south listening to a ton of grunge rock (I'm sure if you read my books you'll be able to guess who my favorite bands are). I wanted to major in theatre and creative writing but my parents refused to let me. They told me those weren't "reliable professions". Reliable? I'd just rather do something I enjoy!

When I hit 30 I decided to start a bucket list and publishing a book was on the top (followed shortly by meeting a certain celebrity). Proud to report I've accomplished both.

So, here I am with my first novel and working on the second one. The journey of writing Bound to the Fallen has been amazing and allowed me to meet many wonderful individuals.

I hope if you read my work that you will enjoy it. After all, writing is the most amazing magic trick of all... it puts the reader in the mind of the writer (kind of creepy if you think about it).

I hope you love my little world as much as I do.

How to Kill Your Boss - An Erotic Love Story by Krissy Daniels *Review*

Tatum Wood murders her boss on a daily basis. Daydreams, real dreams, it doesn’t matter. In her opinion, it’s better than therapy. That is until he takes a swan dive off the roof of a building and all evidence points to her as the main suspect.

Enter Franklin Reed, her mysterious, overprotective and drop-dead gorgeous coworker. His injection into her life couldn’t have come at a better time. Two men are brutally attacked across the hall from her apartment and she has a stalker with a penchant for roses.

Franklin is all too eager to play the hero in and out of bed. Their attraction is undeniable, their heat level, searing. As they scramble to discover who’s behind the murders, secrets are unearthed that call to question Franklin’s motives as well as his identity. Tatum discovers that life is never what you expect and love isn’t always hearts and flowers. Sometimes, it lurks in the shadows and bites you on the ass when you least expect it.

I received a copy of this story from NetGalley for an honest review.

Who hasn’t imagined killing their boss? How to Kill Your Boss is an incredibly exciting read that combines the humor of horrible boss homicide fantasies with scorching erotic romance. I could not put this book down. You should definitely check out How to Kill Your Boss for yourself.

Tatum ‘Tate’ Wood is a murderer… well at least in her own mind. Fantasizing about killing her scumbag boss is one of the two simple pleasures Tate enjoys as she spends her days working as a receptionist for the company her deceased father founded. Tate’s second simple pleasure is her budding friendship with the too hot to be true Auditor, Franklin Reed. But when people around Tate start dropping like flies and she gets pinned for an all too real murder, Tate must decide if Franklin is friend or foe.

What I Loved: FRANKLIN. FRANKLIN. FRANKLIN. Did I mention I really loved Franklin? Ridiculously hot, great sense of humor, loyal, protective of the woman in his life, AND the man can kick some serious butt. Overall How to Kill Your Boss is an original read and author Krissy Daniels perfectly blends elements of humor, action, suspense, romance, and erotica.

What I Didn’t Love: Overall I really loved How to Kill Your Boss and thought it was a great book. My only small nitpick is that there are a lot of secondary characters in How to Kill Your Boss and at times I felt they may not have all been necessary to the story. There’s a mysterious neighbor, a sassy waitress, a kind detective, a psychotic high school classmate, a suspicious office manager, a jealous ex, a sexy hacker, an angry client, and so on. The volume of second tier players occasionally made it hard to focus.

Favorite Quotes:
“I’d set him high on a pedestal, to worship and adore. So close, but forever out of reach. With the absence of light, when his unreal beauty couldn’t blind me, I saw the man inside. I liked what was in there. I liked it so much, my chest hurt.”

“Love me, hate me. I don’t fucking care. Just be with me.”

“I hate you. I hate you with every ounce of my being. I loathe how you make me ache so deep I fear I’m dying. I detest the control you have over my body. I’m repulsed by my need for you. I hate you. But mostly, I hate that despite everything, I can’t shake you, and I don’t want to. I want you.”

If you’re looking for an incendiary read with lots of action (in and out of the bedroom) that still has a sense of humor, How to Kill Your Boss will not disappoint. While the story has a solid ending it is open enough for more adventures for Franklin and Tate. I hope that Daniels decides to revisit the pair; I would totally come back for another installment.

Happy reading.

Author note – as you may remember, my vampires do a lot of talking inside their servants’ heads, so the italics within the excerpt are pretty important to keep it from being confusing.

Debra. I’m hungry.

Two words that always meant something much more than blood to vampires.
She found him in Lady Lyssa’s gardens. The old stone bench under an arbor weighted down by Confederate jasmine was his favored place to work when he didn’t have to be in the lab. Brian was studying his laptop now, which provided her time to look at him as she approached.

The moonlight limned his hair, giving the lighter strands a golden-silver luster. The sculpted planes of his face were etched by shadow. With the preternatural vampire stillness that could take him when he was deep in thought, he could have been another marble statue in the maze of gardens.

Though he often came out of his work as if emerging from the bottom of a still ocean, she felt the moment his focus sharpened on her. It was a transition that never failed to weaken her knees. The awareness in his eyes, a mixture of blood hunger, sexual need and...

No, that was all there was. That was all she could let herself think about. For her part, it was so much more, but that was her problem to handle. She was the human in the relationship. A servant to his needs.

Setting aside his laptop, he brought her between his knees, banded his arms around her and nuzzled her throat. No words. They didn’t need them, did they? She wound her arms around his shoulders, taking advantage of those first few seconds to slide her fingers through his thick hair, her pulse tripping as he slipped the buttons of her blouse and licked the valley between her breasts, tracing the curves. The man could use his tongue, the way a master painter used a fine brush. The pressure, stroke, timing... Totally controlled and excruciatingly perfect.

If a vampire wanted to take his servant in plain view of everyone on the Council estate, no one thought a thing about it. But right now, they were blissfully alone. Brian slid a hand up under her skirt to cup her buttock. When he found his way beneath her panties to stimulate her rim with long fingers, she moaned, rubbing her mound against his chest. The look he lifted to her was full of heat and pleasure, reflecting that dangerous edge that left no doubt—at least in this moment—that he considered her totally his.

His other hand slid along the curve of her breast, up to her throat, stroking so she lifted her chin, drawing in her breath at the whisper of his own there, the brush of his fangs. Those vibrant hazel eyes watched her every reaction.

“Stay still,” he said, and she didn’t move a muscle, even though inside all of her nerve endings were dancing. He pressed his mouth against her throat again and, as his fangs penetrated, he slowly slid his fingers inside her.

Clasp your hands behind your back. He spoke to her mind to mind, but it didn’t lessen the command. When she obeyed, the thrust of her breasts put her tight nipples against his upper chest, an excruciating friction.

My bad girl. Already so hot and wet. You’re going to come without my permission.
No, my lord.
You’re saying no to me?

He took a particular delight in befuddling her usually organized mind like that. She could tell it in the gleam of his gaze, the erotic set of his irresistible mouth as he briefly lifted his head, gave her a look. She gave a desperate half laugh. “No, my lord. I mean, yes. Oh...”

He scissored and thrust his fingers in a rhythm with his drinking that elicited tiny moans, made her lose her train of thought.

You’re going to come for me.

“Yes.” She breathed it, shut her eyes and pressed her jaw against his head as the climax rose up inside her, an irresistible wave. She’d do anything for him.

He locked his arm around her, holding her fast so her sensual writhings worked her against his body. As he took his nourishment from her throat again, he kept stroking and teasing her until she wanted nothing more than to grip his shoulders, hold on forever.

But she wasn’t allowed to touch him until he said she could.

Annabel Joseph *Spotlight & Giveaway*

It’s no easy feat transitioning from the disciplined arena of competitive gymnastics to the artistic whirl of the Cirque du Monde. Kelsey Martin finds secret inspiration in Theo Zamora, a dark, taciturn trapezist–until his partner dies in a tragic accident and he decides to leave the circus for good.

Theo doesn’t understand why Kelsey reaches out to him, only that she compels him with her unique combination of innocence and recklessness. Before long the two are collaborating on an aerial silks act for a new production, the Cirque de Minuit. Theo’s impatience with Kelsey’s naivete is matched only by his passion for her, and the two soon become embroiled in a tempestuous, consuming romance.

But some still blame Theo for his partner’s accident, and danger wraps up the two performers as inevitably as the scarlet silk of their act. Theo and Kelsey must find a way to connect and trust one another as he leads her deeper and deeper into a dangerous world of control and desire.

At a small, struggling circus in Ulaanbaatar, a fearless trapezist fascinates Cirque du Monde talent scout Jason Beck, until he realizes, halfway through the act, that he already knows this exotic, blue-eyed beauty. Intimately. If he’d known she was part of the act he was here to recruit, he never would have done such basely carnal things to her the night before!

Torn by professional and personal desires, Jason invites Sara to Paris. She’s thrilled to join Cirque du Monde, but her trapeze partner, Baat, is less cooperative. When tensions threaten the future of Sara and Baat’s act, she finds solace in a sexy, consuming Master/slave relationship with Jason. Jason’s strict requirements match perfectly with Sara’s desires to submit, to do whatever it takes to please her Master. Soon they’re barreling toward deeper commitments, even love.

But circus life can be chaotic. Perilous. Cirque CEO—and brutal Master—Michel Lemaitre develops an uncomfortable interest in the submissive trapezist, and Baat becomes increasingly difficult to control. Fears and secrets, jealousy and uncertainties threaten to undo everything Sara and Jason have built in their intimate BDSM sessions. Hurt by lies, rocked by shocking revelations, the two must battle to remain bound together in love.

In the sexually charged world of Cirque du Monde, CEO Michel Lemaitre reigns as king of depravity. He’s a stringent, brutal Master who selects his slaves based on their ability to cope with strict handling and pain. He exerts rigid control over his chosen partners and they submit to him in all things—that is, until fiery Italian acrobat Valentina Sancia enters his life.

Valentina’s known as La Vampa, the flame of Napoli, and her tempestuous personality and wild libido soar as high as her circus tricks. To his chagrin, she wants nothing more than to be his slave. Michel finds himself drawn to the red-headed firebrand even as he tries his hardest to resist her. It doesn’t help that the sensual beauty idolizes him and tempts him at every turn. He finally engages her in a one-month, no-holds-barred Master-slave relationship to prove their incompatibility.

And that’s when the circus really begins.

The two become wrapped up in bondage, cages, physical ordeals…and an emotionally fraught battle of wills. He’s never had a slave burn so bright, and Valentina’s heart is set on pleasing her Master, no matter the torment and trials she must endure. Is there such a thing as too much passion? Michel’s convinced there is, and he’s determined to tame a billowing love on the verge of blazing out of control.

Publisher’s Note: This erotic romance novel is approximately 79K words and contains sexual content, graphic language, and situations that some readers may find objectionable: Anal play/intercourse, m/m/f/m menage, BDSM scenes, power exchange themes, and extreme control.

“You shouldn’t be here, Miss Sancia. Do you have any idea what goes on inside?” He nodded toward the door as his slaves stripped out of their form-fitting fetish wear.

Her eyes skimmed their way. It was difficult for a normal person to ignore the sight of their nude bodies, much less this sex-crazed woman. “I know what goes on, monsieur,” she said. “I’ve heard.”

“What have you heard?”

“That there is dominance and submission. That you have slaves. I know about the lifestyle, of course.”

“What do you know?” he challenged. “Have you ever dominated anyone?”

Her eyes strayed again to his slaves, the two men waiting for orders with a servility so natural it seemed inborn. “I’m not dominant. I’m a submissive, like them.”

He respected people’s self-identification in all things, but in this case, he couldn’t keep a straight face. “Does it come easily to you? Submission?”

“I don’t know. I’ve never tried it,” she admitted after a moment. “But I don’t like easy things, and I think I’d enjoy being overpowered if someone could actually do it.”

This, he could believe. People submitted for many reasons, all of them fascinating, all of them deeply personal. If she liked the challenge of submission, she would enjoy watching him play with his slaves. He took in her skimpy, sexy outfit, his eyes catching on the lines of the black garter belt set off by her pale skin. Such clothing was power, protection. Distraction in her case, with every curve emphasized and on display. “You must undress if you want to come in. No clothing is permitted within my inner sanctum.”

He didn’t expect Valentina to balk at the regulation, and she didn’t. She undressed until she stood before him as proudly naked as his slaves, her acrobat’s body a wonder to behold. Next to his broad, muscular playthings, she appeared an ultra-feminine pillar of eroticism. Her small, firm breasts jutted forward, tipped by taut nipples. At a signal, his pets collected her clothing, folding and stacking it neatly next to theirs. Another gesture and the men knelt, heads bowed, one at either side of him.

Valentina looked impressed. She regarded their naked splendor hungrily, the little nympho. He cleared his throat to get her attention. “What draws you to power exchange?” he asked. “Only enjoyment?

Only sex?”

She took a deep breath. “I know there’s more to it than that. I know there must be trust, and negotiating, and safewords.”

“Safewords?” He gave a tight smile. “There is nothing safe about words. Something to remember if you ever give your body over to a dominant’s will.”

“I don’t care about being safe.” Her fingers twisted together in the intensity of her confession. “I want pain and surrender. I want to be subdued, pushed to my limits. Forced to obey.”

“Do you?” How he wished to reach out and touch her. You will harm this one, his conscience whispered. If she does not destroy you first.

The warnings blared in his brain each time he thought about taking what she so blatantly offered. He must turn her off. He looked away, feigning disinterest in her body, in her submission. He undressed in silence, giving each article of clothing to his fastidious pets to put away. Valentina made no attempt to disguise her curiosity. He would have been disappointed if she did. Her eyes caressed every part of his body, lingering on his thickening cock. He enjoyed her admiration but seduction wasn’t the point of this interlude.

What is the point, Michel? Besides lying to yourself?

With great effort, he silenced his misgivings and led her into his most sacred space...

Kissed by the Wave by Serena Gilley *Review*

Beyond the limits of sight, magical beings live in the Forbidden Realm. The two worlds were once connected, but the desires of man forced their separation. Now, desire may bring them back together...

Aliya is a mermaid with an obsession. Though contact with humans is strictly forbidden, she can't seem to stay away from the incredibly handsome Devin, who visits her lake night after night. Her body and soul have never been drawn to anyone like this before. Deciding that her longing for Devin is worth the risk, she goes to him. As their lust for each other deepens, Aliya grows to need his touch as much as she needs water.

Devin believed Aliya was a perfect fantasy his mind created-until the breathtaking mermaid swims to shore. Courtesy of a magical wish, Aliya is newly human, and she and Devin give in to their passion again and again. But Aliya's mortal form is only temporary. If they don't have the strength to part ways when the time comes, their illicit love could rock the balance between the realms forever . . .

A copy of this story was provided by NetGalley for an honest review for The Reading Room Blog.

There is a hidden veil that separates humans from a Forbidden Realm, a world full of magic and beautiful creatures. Those creatures must do their part to maintain the veil and remain hidden from human sight. For curious mermaid Aliya that rule becomes harder and harder to follow with each nightly visit the handsome human Devin makes to her lake. Devin is consumed by sadness from the loss of his wife and the brief glimpses of beautiful mermaid Aliya become the only thing to give him hope. When fairies Raea and Kyne make a dangerous bet, Aliya and Devin get their chance to make their desire for each other real. But will coming together bring them happiness or destroy their two different worlds.

What I Loved: Plan and simple, I had a great time reading Kissed by the Wave. Was it perfect? No. Did it make me smile? Absolutely. Unique characters, interesting plot, exciting romance – Kissed by the Wave hooked me quick and kept me happy. Author Serena Gilley sets a wonderful stage and I could clearly picture her characters and their different worlds in my mind. Also, the sexual tension and intensity of the love scenes Gilley wrote are just off the charts. Aliya and Devin radiate heat but my personal favorite are the sparks coming off of fairies Raea and Kyne.

What I Didn’t Love: Overall I enjoyed the story but I would have loved a little bit more insight into Devin and Aliya’s day to day lives on land and in the lake. I think it would have added a little more weight to the sacrifices the characters had to consider in order to be together.

Favorite Quotes:

“She knew nothing of business, his widely acclaimed success, his net worth, or his car. She only wanted to put her hands on him, to give him what he wanted, to know him any way that she could.”

“She felt what he felt, she’d ridden the waves of passion that rolled inside him. She’d felt those holes of aching emptiness fill as she’d wrapped him in her arms and poured her soul into him.”

“He kissed her and she melted into him. Maybe if they spent the rest of their lives together this way, joined in some physical fashion, they could hide from whatever unspoken force it was that appeared to be trying to separate them. Hell, it was worth a try.”

Kissed by the Wave is a fun and steamy read and I am very excited to have found a solid new paranormal romance series to invest in. Other paranormal romance fans will have a blast with this story but if you’re a general romance fan or new to paranormal reads, Kissed by the Wave involves very understandable mythology and the heat between all of the leads will still make things fun for you too.

Kissed by the Wave is the first book in the Forbidden Realm series. By the Magic of Starlight (Forbidden Realm #2) will be released this fall and will focus on Raea and Kyne. Licked by the Flame (Forbidden Realm #3) will be available Winter 2014. I’ll be stalking both on my TBR list.

Happy reading.
