*Review* The River Leith by Leta Blake

Memory is everything.

After an injury in the ring, amateur boxer Leith Wenz wakes to discover his most recent memories are three years out of date. Unmoored and struggling to face his new reality, Leith must cope anew with painful revelations about his family. His brother is there to support him, but it’s the unfamiliar face of Zach, a man introduced as his best friend, that provides the calm he craves. Until Zach’s presence begins to stir up feelings Leith can’t explain.

For Zach, being forgotten by his lover is excruciating. He carefully hides the truth from Leith to protect them both from additional pain. His bottled-up turmoil finds release through vlogging, where he confesses his fears and grief to the faceless Internet. But after Leith begins to open up to him, Zach's choices may come back to haunt him.

Ultimately, Leith must ask his heart the questions memory can no longer answer.

I received a copy of this story from NetGalley for an honest review.

I have a soft spot for sweet M/M romances and The River Leith did not disappoint. A touching second chance romance that blends heartbreak, passion, and hope - this was a wonderful romance that I happily recommend.

What happens when the man you love forgets you exist? Do you force your way back into his life? Or step back and let him have space to figure out what he needs, even if that doesn't include you? That's the heart-breaking dilemma facing Zach Stephens after a boxing injury wipes away three years of his boyfriend Leith's memory. Three years that spanned the entirety of their relationship.

Leith Wenz is spiraling out of control. Vague doctors, a brother who talks around his questions and the huge gap in his memory leave him full of hurt and rage. Only visits from his forgotten "best friend" Zach help him to maintain control. But when friendly conversations begin to set off confusing sparks, Leith starts to question their past and their potential future.

What I Loved: Overall The River Leith was a solid romance that quickly hooked me and I was able to finish the story in one straight read. Author Leta Blake beautifully translated Zach's heartbreak and the chaos of Leith's mind and I connected easily to each man. I also loved the interjection of Zach's Vlog to the story. It was original and I think it added the feeling of a third POV - the outside worlds view of the impact of Leith's injury and Zach's struggle to cope.

What I Didn't Love: I didn't fully get behind the decision of Leith's doctors, brother, and Zach to keep Leith in the dark about the memories he lost. I understand that it helped Leith focus on the importance of what is over what was, but at times I just wanted to shout "JUST TELL HIM!!!" I also think the story would have had a little more emotional weight if we had the opportunity to see more of Leith and Zach before Leith's injury.

Favorite Quotes:

"I'm gone. We're gone. We're nothing. Everything we had is dead. I love him so much, and it's all gone."

"He loved Zach beyond reason, he could trust Zach with his heart and soul, and Zach needed him more than he needed Zach."

M/M romance fans won't want to miss out on this one. Leith and Zach are two lovable heroes and their love story is one that I won't forget any time soon.

Happy reading.

*Promo Blitz* The Yellow Hoods Series by Adam Dreece

Along Came a Wolf

Seeds of a technological revolution have started to sprout in this old world, about to change it forever. A secret society, long thought crushed, makes its first move against its unsuspecting benevolent opponent.

Master inventor Nikolas Klaus has seen some of this coming, and has quietly broken the rule of keeping his secret society's knowledge and skills from the younger generations. He knows that the day will come when they will be needed, but has underestimated how soon.

Tee, Elly and Richy shed their innocence and are forced to stand as the Yellow Hoods to overcome life-threatening dangers, unleashed as secrets of Nikolas' past are revealed.

Will Nikolas' secrets cost him the life of his granddaughter? Are his efforts too little, too late?

This world is starting about to undergo its SteamPunk revolution in large part because of master inventors like Nikolas Klaus. The series will bring in the technological changes as the game between the secret societies plays out. For those unfamiliar with SteamPunk, you'll be right at home and be brought along for the journey.

The story derives some elements from some classic tales, but from the perspective of the rhymes and stories we know (such as Santa Claus, Little Red Riding Hood and The Three Little Pigs) were based on something real in another world, like Ring-Around-A-Rosie reminds us of the plague. The classic tales are used to provide some additional depth and richness, while not being a retelling or getting in the way for the reader.

Breadcrumb Trail

In an act of desperation, inventor Maxwell Watt entrusts his son to secretly deliver plans for his completed steam engine to Nikolas Klaus, a master inventor in another kingdom. When the Fare, the nefarious secret society, learns the game-changing invention’s plans are en route, they accelerate their own scheme to neutralize Klaus on their path to reclaiming long-lost control over kingdoms.

Meanwhile, after a decade of relative tranquility in Mineau, local children have started to go missing—again. Captain Archambault suspects the return of the disturbing and depraved Ginger Lady. With the help of Tee, Elly, and Richy—the Yellow Hoods—the search is on to find the missing children before it is too late.

What is the secret that ties one of the Yellow Hoods to the Ginger Lady?

Who are the Red Hoods?

Enjoy this darker, edgier installment in the exciting emergent steampunk adventure series.

Charlene A. Wilson *Spotlight & Giveaway*

For centuries, Cole Shilo has harvested the homeless, wiped their memories, and delivered them as servants to the nobles of Cornerstone Deep. When Cole is sent to harvest a second-class woman who has broken curfew, he expects no different. But Anna Sinclair's soul calls out to him. Soul mates aren't possible on Cornerstone Deep... Are they? "My life is a mirage of endless time. But you engulf me, rivet my mind, encompass my soul." *The Transformation of Anna was previously published under the name "Cornerstone Deep." Substantial revisions were made and the title changed. It is book one in the new Cornerstone Deep series.
**Heat level - Sensual. Warning: Contains subject matter that may be offensive to sensitive readers.

Cole unstopped the slender vial and gently lifted Anna’s head to administer the potion. As he carefully tipped the container to her lips, tremors traveled down his forearms. His hands quaked. The amber liquid jumped to the brim and he quickly tilted it upright. Gods, Cole, control yourself. She needs every drop.
A soft palm rested on his wrist and Cole’s gaze shot to Elaina’s. When had she returned and how did he not pick up on the strong compassion emitting from her when she had? Her blue eyes looked deep into his, understanding with a touch of sadness. “Let me do that, Cole. You’ve been through enough.”
He wasn’t sure if the tremors were from anticipating a fortunate outcome or from sheer anxiety over the whole ordeal, but he accepted her tender attention as a blessing. Vincent’s intervention with her was evident. He watched as she patiently poured small measures into Anna’s mouth.
Elaina turned to Cole and lifted the emptied container. “Well, that’s it. She got it all.”
He sighed. “Thank you.”
“Anything, Cole.” She smiled and set the vial on the bed stand. “What about you?
Can I get you a drink? It might calm you some.”

Nodding, he offered a small smile.
“Good, then. I’ll be right back.”

As she closed the door behind her, Cole eased himself onto the bed. “Don’t give up, Anna.” His faint words were swallowed by the silence of the room. “I’ll fix this and see to it nothing ever happens to you again.” Brushing his fingertips over her hair, he solemnly whispered a plea. “Don’t leave me.”
Her soft locks sent countless memories rushing through his mind—her smile, cheeky comments, blue eyes dancing as if life itself was a game. Her Arylinite spirit embraced every moment of love, able to see beneath façades that others deemed as truth. He sighed, knowing that side of her may have been unique to that lifetime—a result of her specialized upbringing in the Arylin colony of the northern territory.
He tilted his head and gazed over her still face. Her features were remarkably similar to Mianna’s. The gentle slope of her nose, the way she chose to wear her dark hair long, and he couldn’t deny her blue eyes when she’d looked at him. He cupped her cheek with his hand, gently stroking her lips with his thumb. They curved from a bow-tie center into a natural smile. So soft. Inviting. He leaned to her and lightly kissed them, then leaned his cheek to hers.
“Talk to me, Anna.” His breath was a plea. As much as he knew no answer would come, his heart called to her with his deepest wish.
He brushed his fingers down her neck to her chest, tenderly caressing her pale skin at the neckline of her gown. A strained pause caught his throat as he lightly followed her breast to her ribcage. “What’s in your heart?”

The tiny circles he drew on the thin fabric fed his longing for her touch. Supple creases followed his motion. To have her arms around him, the love they brought, had given him unmitigated comfort in a past life. It could be so again.
“My life was yours.” He kissed the circles he created. “Every moment, I found joy in you.”

He looked at her closed eyes. “Please, don’t leave me. Please promise you’ll be mine again.”
No emotion showed upon the visage of his love, but distant echoes of vows lighted his soul.
“Open to me.” He wondered if his whispered thought could possibly reach her unconscious mind. “Speak to me with your soul.”

Her lips parted and a chill flew through him. He waited, listened intently. Weak sensations touched his senses. “Anna,” he said aloud, hope rising. He cupped his palm to her cheek again. “Fight for it. Call to me.”
Anna remained silent.

Cole’s heart ached. Yet, that small reaction spurred his resolve. He framed her face as he lowered to take her lips with his. “I’ll help you.”

The scent of licorice and cream fell from his lips as he called on his Breath of Zephyr. His soul’s voice owned his words. “My life is a mirage of endless time. But you engulf me, rivet my mind, encompass my soul.”

She inhaled his sensual gift and gasped for deeper intake.
Yes. Hope impossibly filled him. His muscles tightened with expectation. His heart pounded against his chest. “Call to me!”

Althea refuses to allow herself to love again. Imprisoned in grief at twenty-four after her husband’s sudden death, she’s convinced her heart died along with him. The Best Kind of Trouble by Lauren Dane *Review*

She has complete control… and he's determined to take it away

A librarian in the small town of Hood River, Natalie Clayton's world is very nearly perfect. After a turbulent childhood and her once-wild ways, life is now under control. But trouble has a way of turning up unexpectedly—especially in the tall, charismatically sexy form of Paddy Hurley….

And Paddy is the kind of trouble that Natalie has a taste for.

Even after years of the rock and roll lifestyle, Paddy never forgot the two wickedly hot weeks he once shared with Natalie. Now he wants more… even if it means tempting Natalie and her iron-grip control. But there's a fine line between well-behaved and misbehaved—and the only compromise is between the sheets!

I received a copy of this story from NetGalley for an honest review.

My name is Lisa and I am a rock star book junkie. I’ve read the good, the bad, and the OMG ugly of rock and roll tales. So when I say The Best Kind of Trouble is an entertaining and exciting read worth checking out, I mean it. Author Lauren Dane had created leads with an intense connection that I could feel pop right off of the page, secondary characters that left me eager for follow-up stories, and a rock plot that kept my interest with a new twist. Now for the story…

Natalie Clayton has done everything possible to leave the craziness of her youth in the past. She’s now a respected town librarian and a dedicated community volunteer. No one would suspect the tattoos she hides under her designer clothes or understand their history or significance. No one except for Paddy Hurley.

Patrick ‘Paddy’ Hurley never forgot the smoking hot waitress from the dive bar where his band Sweet Hollow Ranch got their start. The pair spent two weeks together that resulted in a hit song for the band and some happy memories for Paddy. When the famous rocker stumbles upon the stunning blonde in his hometown coffeehouse, he can’t believe his luck. That is until Nat denies knowing him and shuts down his advances - repeatedly.

Initially shocked, Paddy embraces the challenge of winning Nat again, and this time he plans on keeping her for much longer than a few weeks.

What I Loved: Paddy and Nat make an easy couple to cheer for. They each have their own scars and issues to work through but I totally fell for the pair and wanted them to find happiness with each other. Author Lauren Dane does a great job of demonstrating their potential and the level to which the characters connect. And connect they do, particularly in the bedroom (frequently and in much detail). HOLY COW – I caught myself blushing several times. But for characters who struggle with verbally communicating their emotions, the physical nature of Nat and Paddy’s relationship made sense. If you can't say it, show it. Dane also helps build a really solid atmosphere for the story by putting a play list for the story before the very first chapter. I was familiar with several of the songs and could hear them in my mind during several scenes. I thought that was a great touch.

What I Didn’t Love:  Occasionally some of the day-to-day dialogue between the characters felt a little safe or sanitary for a group living in the world of rock. I also would have loved a flashback or two to Nat and Paddy’s time together when they were young.

Favorite Quotes:

“You’re what I think about. All the time. I’m not saying we’re engaged or anything, but this is a relationship, Natalie.”

“But the thing about Hurley men? They’re floozies, and I’m sure you’re not unaware that those boys sure do love the ladies. In any case, they flit around and flit around but once they find the one, that’s it. Over and done.”

“You and your broken pieces need to be with me. They’re the most beautiful broken pieces I’ve ever seen.”

Overall The Best Kind of Trouble was an enjoyable read and a fun start to a promising rock and roll series. The Hurley Boys Series will continue this December with Broken Open, which will focus on Paddy’s brother Ezra and Nat’s BFF Tuesday. Both Ezra and Tuesday shined as secondary characters so I’m eager to see them both as leads. I will definitely be checking Broken Open out.

Happy Reading.

I received an Advanced Reader Copy of this story from NetGalley for an honest review.

Refreshing real and touchingly sweet, The Real Thing is a grounded love story that that I enjoyed immensely.

Emilia Johnson and Eric Matua have been each other's rock for as long as either can remember. Distance, timing, and poor self esteem have made each accept BFF status over something more. But when Em gets the chance to be Eric's roomie for an entire summer, secrets come to light that will either push the two apart or finally make them accept the feelings they can no longer deny.

What I Loved: I wanted to reach in my Kindle and hug The Real Thing. Author Cassie Mae crafted an original and touching romance of two slightly flawed young souls finding a love that they both deserve. There is real love and passion in this story and I could feel the depth of Em and Eric's feelings.

What I Didn't Love: To be honest I struggled a bit with the first two to three chapters of The Real Thing. Social media plays a big part of the story so each chapter starts with a status update and then jumps into Em or Eric's POV. It got a little confusing. Please hang in there. Right around chapter three I found my rhythm with author Cassie Mae's writing style and started to more clearly hear Em and Eric's individual voices.

Favorite Quotes:

"I breathe him in, and he rocks me, I don't mind going slow anymore. It really does feel okay. Right. At least for us. I wonder if this is how real life couples fall in love. You know, if love is the direction I'm heading."

"Sometimes when people need space, you have  to give it to them when you don't want to. Because when you rush forward, and things aren't all the way healed, it ends up throwing you backward and it takes that much longer to make things better."

In romance there are a lot of fantastic/extreme relationships with billionaire's, rock stars, athletes, etc.  Even in a lot of NA books I've seen many tales of unbelievably gorgeous people getting to go to unbelievably exotic locations and do unbelievably awesome things. Those stories can be a fun escape but sometimes I need something solid, something real and The Real Thing has it in spades. The love between Em and Eric jumps off of the page. I never doubted it. When each character made a mistake it didn't make me mad at them, it made me want to give them each a hug and then a little shove in the right direction. No spoilers, but fans of HEA's will be pleased.

The Real Thing is a wonderful romance  and I hope you check it out.

Happy reading.

His gaze is piercing through me. He tilts his head and arcs one brow in silent question, Need any help?

I almost imperceptibly nod my head.

Mystery man speaks to his company, who’s leaning with his back against the bar. The other guy whips his head around to look at me and is obviously not agreeing with his friend’s intention to intervene. He disregards his friend’s comment and comes over to Nick and me. He walks right up to us to place a secure arm around my waist, tucking me gently into his side and turning slightly, so I’m engulfed in his one arm embrace. His breath strokes over my temple while he speaks. “I’m taking her for a dance.” His deep, throaty voice which exudes sensuality fits him perfectly in his tailored suit. The guy glowers at Nick, daring Nick to defy him. His intimidating stance has Nick backing off instantly, and he leads us both away with his arm firmly holding my middle.

I don’t even look back at Nick. My eyes are glued to this man. My mouth quirks up in a smile as he shows me an enthralling sidelong grin.

When I’m about to ask his name, he halts. “You’re welcome,” he whispers the words against my ear. And again, he strolls away.

Blurb For Fallon by Soraya Naomi – July 26th

We all have a façade, a concealed mask we wear to portray ourselves to the world.

Fallon’s mask is real, what you see is what you get. Growing up with two loving parents in Chicago, graduating in Chicago, and now working a job she loves, she enjoys her life.

Her untarnished world is shaken when Luca crosses her path.

Luca’s mask is tightly controlled. Distrust, rivalry, and violence rule his life.

When confronted with insecurities, when the one you love wears his mask perfectly, when your life unravels and you don’t know why, do you keep trusting the person you love?

Everyone has a façade. Everyone has an ulterior motive.

Soraya Naomi resides in Europe with her entrepreneur fiancé. She attended university in The Netherlands.

She has a passionate obsession for the written word and indulges in chocolate pastries much too often.

There are books full of great writing that don't have very good stories. Read sometimes for the story... don't be like the book-snobs who won't do that.

Read sometimes for the words--the language. Don't be like the play-it-safers who won't do that. But when you find a book that has both a good story and good words, treasure that book.
