Have you ever felt like you were living your life for a future that was predetermined? Like there was some bigger picture you just prayed you would someday see clearly? That picture has been crystal clear to me since I was old enough to recognize it for just what it was.
Or I should say recognize him for who he was.
I’ve loved Cohen Cage since I was a small child. He’s been my everything for the last twenty-two years. I’ve loved him through every girlfriend he’s ever brought home. Through his college years and then mine. I’ve loved him through two deployments. And ever since the day I told him how I felt, he’s acted like I’m a stranger.
My name is Danielle Reid, and it’s time for me to get my man.
Our future is an unexpected fate, and no matter what our parents, siblings, and friends say…it’s going to be worth every second of the fight to make it happen.
I received a copy of this story for an honest review.
I am a HUGE Corps Security Series fan so when I heard that author Harper Sloan was starting a new series focusing on the Corps Security second generation I did my book nerd happy dance. Sloan is a rock star at striking the balance between sweet romance, scorching passion, and the joy of family and friends. I am happy to report the first book in the new Hope Town Series, Unexpected Fate, knocks it out of the park. I laughed, I swooned, I ugly cried.
Danielle 'Dani' Reid has loved Cohen Cage her entire life but he has staunchly turned a blind eye to those feelings. As Cohen faces another deployment overseas Dani has to decide to let go of her girlhood crush or woman up and fight for her man.
Cohen Cage fell in love with Dani Reid way before some would think appropriate and for that reason he's fought to ignore the love he feels. Cohen is older and his job as a soldier is calling him away for an indefinite stretch of time. Loving Dani would only be hurting her...right?
As the bond between Dani and Cohen becomes harder to ignore the two must decide what their willing to sacrifice to truly be together. Can two childhood friends find forever together?
What I Loved: Unexpected Fate is one of those rare books that just a few pages in I 100% knew I was reading something special. I fell for Cohen as a little boy in the Corps Security Series and grown up Cohen proved to be just as super and just as loveable. Dani is the perfect heroine with her fathers backbone and her mothers sweetness. Cohen and Dani have a connection so deep and heartfelt I couldn't help but shed a few tears as they faced several obstacles only to come out stronger for them. There are several cameos from the Corps Security crew that were just the icing on this yummy cake.
"Right or wrong, whatever it is between us would always be bigger than I understand. It's something that was so unexpected - that feeling, craving, desire, to make her mine."
"That magnetic charge that floats over my skin, heating every inch and leaving a trail of awareness in its wake. That pull that has always been connected to one man."
"One thing my parents taught me was that when you find the reason for your heart to beat, you don't ever let it go, and if, for some reason beyond your control, you have to, you fight with every breath in your body to have it back."
Unexpected Fate is one of those reads that I love so much that I know I will be revisiting Dani and Cohen on a regular basis. The Unexpected Fate characters are solid, the romance is sweet, the passion is hot, the family bonds are strong, and the storyline is addictive. Do yourself a favor and read this book. You don't have to have read the Corps Security books to enjoy but they definitely add extra depth to the story.
Unexpected Fate is the first in author Harper Sloan's new Hope Town series. I can't wait to see which Corps offspring meets their mate next.
Harper lives in small town Georgia just a short drive from her hometown of Peachtree City. She (and her 3 daughters) enjoy ruling the house they dubbed 'Estrogen Ocean', much to her husband’s chagrin. Harper has a borderline unhealthy obsession with books; you can almost ALWAYS find her with her eReader attached. She enjoys bad reality TV and cheesy romantic flicks. Her favorite kind of hero--the super alpha kind!
Harper started using writing as a way to unwind when the house went to sleep at night; and with a house full of crazy it was the perfect way to just relax. It didn't take long before a head full of very demanding alphas would stop at nothing to have their story told.
