"Do you get what you deserve?"
Under his hands or on the back of his bike--the freedom I feel with Noah is an illusion.
"No, baby. You get what you take and you keep what you can hold."
He ties me to him with fear and obligation and lust. Binds us tighter with his twisted sense of honor. I just hope his chains are strong enough to keep me safe.
These are short, hot reads, sure to leave you panting for more.
I received a copy of this story for an honest review.
Break Me In (Devil's Host #2) ends right where Ride Me Hard (Devil's Host #1) left off, with Star on the back of Noah's bike unsure of where the road is going to take them.
What I Loved: Noah and Star just have "it." There's a connection between the two characters that just adds an amazing punch to this serial. Noah is a rough man who's done bad things. Star is a damaged girl who's had bad things done to her. Author Shari Slade does a great job of making it clear those bad things don't define them, but they just make Noah and Star perfect for each other.
What I Didn't Love: Overall Break Me In is a solid second addition to the serial. There is one scene of physical violence towards Star that was a little upsetting but even though I didn't love it I think it made sense in the world that the story is set.
"Is that how all this works, you get what you deserve?" "No baby. Here you get what you take and keep what you can hold."
"We'll get out of here alive, but we won't be the same. I'll be whole, and Noah will be irrevocably broken. He's not my self-destruct button. I'm his."
"I've seen power break a man before. I've seen it twist a man until all that's left is greed and hollow cruelty. You may get to draw the line, but it's my job to hold it."
I am loving the Devil's Host MC serial and Break Me In definitely built on my appreciation for it. Because this is a serial you do need to read Ride Me Hard before reading Break Me In. Star and Noah's story will continue in the Devil's Host #3 - Drive Me Wild. I'm looking forward to it.
