*Author Spotlight & Review* Chasing Midnight (The Darkest Desires of Dixie Series #1) by Shyloh & Alex Morgan

Quinn Mason is a young Southern gentleman. Perhaps, gentleman is a stretch for how he lived his earlier years. He was the kid whose life seemed charmed, a popular athlete in high school who won a full scholarship. Life was on track for him until the death of his parents. In one terrible moment, Quinn went from having everything being everything for his young siblings. He left college, and used the money from his parent’s life insurance policy to buy a bar. The bar supported him and the kids, affording him the ability to give for them the life they were robbed of, even sending them to college.

Mhisery Bellemy has returned to Midnight, reluctantly. Her mother died, and she is left to take care of her drunken father, and the family cafe´. She had escaped the small town’s clutches as soon as she was of age, and swore never to return. Now, her siblings have turned to her, leaning heavily on her for help. The woman who got out of town and made a life she loves is now forced, by the bonds of family, and the weight of obligation, to return and give up what she had worked to build for herself.
These two are unlikely to cross paths, but chance throws them into the right place at the right time. Quinn’s brother is the catalyst that brings Mhisery into Quinn’s line of sight. And that’s all it took, one look and he knows he has to have her. The golden boy athlete is now drawn to the tall, tattooed woman stepping off the last bus into town.

Will Quinn ever have the woman he desires, and make her his own, or will she return to the life she loves far away from the small town of Midnight, and Quinn, or will she stay and make a life with the man she loves?

Chasing Midnight tells a story of love, friendship, and sacrifice. This talented duo, Shyloh & Alex Morgan, will rip your heart out and have you falling in love with the inhabitants of this quaint, quirky, town. Welcome to southern seduction, and the town of Midnight, where the Darkest Desires of Dixie become a reality.

Mhisery left the sleepy town of Midnight, Georgia in her wake years ago but just as she's starting to make waves in the art world of NYC, a desperate call from her brother brings her back home. She vows it's only temporary but as she discovers that extent of her family's suffering Mhisery begins to struggle with where "home" really is.

Quinn knows about sacrifice, when his parents died he stepped up to take care of his young siblings and keep his family together. Not short of female company, Quinn is tired of one night stands and starts longing for a woman to make his future with. When he spots Mhisery he feels a spark of hope that she may be the woman for the job.

Can the two get past old wounds and family demands to find happiness with each other? Will outside forces rip them apart before they have a chance to try?

What I Loved: As a woman in my 30's I connected with Quinn and Mhisery who are fully formed characters with a defined sense of self and place. This isn't a love story of kids struggling with will they or won't they, Chasing Midnight at its core is a love story of adults discovering their soul mates. Oh and it doesn't hurt that Chasing Midnight is chock full of ridiculously hot/intense love scenes that will get your blood pressure pumping (if they don't, you may want to have your ticker checked).

What I Didn’t Love: There are a lot of story threads in Chasing Midnight. There was the primary romance, secondary sibling romances, sibling rivalries, romantic rivalries, an illegal underground fighting ring, a dangerous stalker, and more. Chasing Midnight alternates between more than half a dozen different POV's at times I found myself getting distracted.

Favorite Quotes:

“She had to get it together. She was not that woman – the kind to pant after a man like a dog in heat. She was always in control of her body, and here she was like some teenage girl with raging hormones. She mentally kicked her own ass.”

“He knew he was lost to her, and he would do his best to make sure she saw he wanted her, wanted more. The instance he tasted Mhisery, he belonged to her; if she knew it or not.”

“He felt no hesitation in calling her his heart. She was and when she left he knew he would be a broken man. Mhisery made it real for him, she filled his life with color and happiness. With her gone he would be in the dark – lost and alone.”

Chasing Midnight is Book #1 in The darkest Desires of Dixie Series. It will be followed by Claiming Midnight, scheduled for release on February 1st. Chasing Midnight did a wonderful job of setting up all  of Midnights inhabitants so I can't wait to check out what comes next in Claiming Midnight.

Happy reading.

Tour Banner

Genre: New Adult
Release Date: January 20, 2015
Cover Design: Maggie Hall

goodreads

Matisse Evans is determined to make her sophomore year of college successful after failing out of a prestigious art school and spending a horribly boring gap year at home. Despite her focus, time isn't on her side as she struggles to hold down three jobs so she can afford her first apartment while juggling course work. In the chaos of it all, Beau Grady moves in and shakes up her world. A college dropout and tattooed bad boy, the rumors about Beau mean one thing for Matisse—trouble. Paralyzed by the fear that she's missing out on life, Matisse discovers plans may unravel, but what rises in their wake can be worth the uncertainty.

After spending the summer couch surfing, Beau Grady moves into an empty room at his ex-girlfriend’s Portland bungalow, skipping his senior year of college to spend his days working at a Vietnamese food cart instead. Once a star hockey player and gifted student, he’s put his life on hold after receiving a life-altering diagnosis, complacent to live in the moment. Hiding behind false rumors and bad habits, Beau falls for Matisse, letting her believe the worst until their relationship blooms into something they both can’t ignore. Falling for her means having to face a future he’d rather forget, but loving her just might be worth it.

Between Everything Cover

She grabs my hands and pins them together. I don’t fight off her touch. I let Mati gather them and raise them above my head. “I think it’s so easy to fall into the world when you’re not ready,” she says seriously. Her free hand brushes over my brows, then sweeps down my nose. “It’s such a big place and we’re all very tiny in the scheme of things.” “What are you trying to say?” “It sucks being an outlier, Beau. I get it. But in spite of everything, we’re always going to feel a bit lost. It’s the part of growing up that no one ever tells you about.” “You’re very wise today, Miss Mati.” “I’m lots things, mister. I’m...” Her voice drops off and she nervously glances down at my chest. “I think I’m a little bit in love with you actually.” At least I’m sitting. That doesn’t help the way my stomach drops though. I snake my hands out of her grip and brace them around her face. There’s a reason why outliers exist on the outside—they can’t find their way in. Mati is no outlier to me. We kiss for what seems like hours. I don’t care if it’s for days. But we kiss until my mouth wipes away the nervousness in that confession of hers, while I still cowardly hide behind mine. In the wild, in the sun, Mati and I are...well, we’re something I never thought I’d have or find. And that’s everything.

Nothing creates emotional upheaval like being young and trying to establish your place in the world while balancing demands from parents, friends, employers, and potential soul-mates. Between Everything & Us does a wonderful job of balancing the beauty of youthful dreams and the strength in embracing adult realities.

What I Loved: Author Rebecca Paul wrote a beautiful story full of emotion, conflict, and love. As I started writing this review I checked back and highlighted over 15 vibrant quotes that just sing. Matisse and Beau are wonderfully flawed characters and I fell for both of them quickly and completely.

What I Didn't Love: The back and forth between Matisse and Beau builds tension but eventually I wanted to grab the both of them and yell "Stop it, WHAT ARE YOU DOING?" Also, I would have appreciated a little more detailed backstory on Matisse's  time before coming to Sutton for a second chance.

Favorite Quotes:

"His dimple is unnecessary. Completely. I mean who has one dimple? Charming shits, that's who."

"He looks as if he's reading my mind - close to bending down and kissing me. I wouldn't mind that. Right now. In front of everyone. Not one fucking bit."

"Mati is a someday-girl, the one you're supposed to meet later when you're less of a prick and have your shit together. Someday girls are lost to idiots like me now, and if I'm being honest, they don't exist in the future either."

"Somehow she's not only managed to find a way to my heat, she's sunk deep into my bones. She flows through my veins even now. Even when I face a giant void."

Between Everything & Us is a sweet story about growing up and grabbing hold of what is truly important in building your future. If you're a New Adult fan, Between Everything & Us is going to be the read for you.

Happy reading.

*Review* In His Keeping (A Slow Burn #2) by Maya Banks

#1 bestselling author Maya Banks continues her suspenseful and steamy Slow Burn trilogy with this second book-a twisting tale featuring a strong yet vulnerable heroine in danger and the sexy alpha hero who must save her.

Abandoned as a baby to a young wealthy couple and raised in a world of privilege, Arial has no hint of her past or who she belonged to. Her only link lies in the one thing that sets her apart from everyone else—telekinetic powers. Protected by her adoptive parents and hidden from the public to keep her gift secret, Ari is raised in the lap of luxury, and isolation. That is, until someone begins threatening her life.

Beau Devereaux is no stranger to the strange. As the head of Deveraux Security, he’s more than familiar with the realities of physic powers. So when a family friend approaches him about protecting his daughter, he’s more than ready to jump on board. What Beau isn’t prepared for is the extent of his attraction to his beautiful and powerful client. What began as a simple assignment, just another job, quickly turns personal as Beau discovers he’ll do anything at all to protect Ari. Even if it costs him his life.

Author Maya Banks is a switch -up artist, no two Banks stories are ever alike. No greater example of her skill at original story telling is her newest release In His Keeping. This paranormal thriller hooked me quickly and kept me on the edge of my seat until its explosive conclusion

Arial has always known she was different, that to protect herself and her loving parents she needed to hide her telekinetic abilities. Her quiet sheltered life  is quickly destroyed when one violent attack sets off a chain reaction of escalating danger. To protect herself she must turn to the only people her father told her to trust - the Devereaux brothers.

From the first moment Beau laid eyes on Arial, a primal need to protect her took control. Beau will use every resource in his arsenal to find those responsible for threatening Arial, even if that means sacrificing himself in the process.

What I Loved: In His Keeping took my breath away with it's non-stop action and exciting mystery. From the moment Arial is first found as a baby in chapter one, In His Keeping keeps up a steady pump of adrenaline that does not let up. Arial and Beau make great romantic foils, from her innocence and inner-strength to his ferocity and unwavering devotion. Though the story unfolds in a short span of time I totally bought their connection.

What I Didn't Love: In Keep Me Safe, the first book of the A Slow Burn Series, the Devereaux siblings came off as a united front. That close family was near existent in In His Keeping. Beau and his brother Cam have major tension while their other siblings, Tori and Quinn, are just briefly referenced. I believe the missing family connection impacted how much I connected to Beau.

Favorite Quotes:

"A distinctly, delicious feminine spark of mischief fired in the depths of those expressive eyes. And he knew in that instant he was in trouble. The kind a man didn't necessarily mind."

"He filled her. Not just her body. He completely and utterly filled her. Her heart. Her soul. He filled her with hope. With confidence. With the knowledge he wouldn't fail her. That he'd protect her from the outside world and would shelter her from the storms of life."

"Everywhere I am is where I want you to be."

In His Keeping is a pulse pounding paranormal romance. If you're new to the realm of paranormal reads, this would be a great jumping in point. Though In His Keeping is the second story in  the A Slow Burn Series it can be read as a stand alone.

Happy reading.

*Blog Tour* Concealment by Scarlet Wolfe

Victoria Hart is supposed to be the enemy. She is an undercover detective who infiltrated my hotel and casino as an employee to take down my illegal enterprise. What she doesn’t know is I am fully aware of it. The operation I’m orchestrating is monumental compared to anything her mind could envision.

It’s the burning desire I feel when she’s near that I didn’t see coming. An unwavering draw to touch her, and the need to break down her walls is testing my restraint; however, nothing can stand in the way of my ultimate goal. She could destroy everything my brothers and I have worked toward to avenge our father’s death.

To keep the upper hand, it is vital to know your enemy. How deeply can I go, peeling back her intriguing layers while still concealing the truth? How much of Victoria can I claim before she’s too close … too close for me to let her go?
language and descriptive sexual scenes.

This novel ends in a cliffhanger and is for a mature audience due to harsh and descriptive sex scenes.

Adrian’s POV:
“I’m Adrian Cassano, the owner of this hotel and casino. I was quite impressed with your moves, Ms. Victoria Stuart,” I say with a smirk.
“It’s Vicky, sir, and how did you see that already? I mean–thank you.”
“Can you explain what transpired?”
“He grabbed my ass, which I would’ve excused, but he refused to move his hand afterward, so I had to do it for him.”
I eye her intently. That wasn’t exactly the response I expected. “So, you’re OK with random men grabbing your ass?”
She scowls. “No, but for the sake of my job, I was willing to let it slide once.” She’s giving me attitude, and damn, she’s gorgeous. This will be more enjoyable than I anticipated.
“I see.” Staring into her striking, green eyes for several seconds, I find she’s determined to hold my gaze.
“I think it would be best to move you to an environment where the cliental will not be touching you without your permission. Although the asshole deserved it, I don’t need a lawsuit, and he would not be the last to grab your ass.”
She continues to scowl. At least her attitude suits her day job. Yes, I believe I’m going to enjoy every second of my time with Victoria. She will be easy to torment since she likely feels she has to keep her mouth shut around me. I have a suspicion that is not something she’s used to doing. I’m sure she doesn’t want to lose this job and blow her case. The investigation I’m fully aware of.

Victoria’s POV:

Reaching down, I zip up my black thigh high boot. I’d never tell my detective partner, Reggie, but I feel badass and sexy as the zipper tightens the shiny, black patent leather against my toned leg.
“It appears his mother, Denise, has been in and out of mental facilities his entire life,” I say. “His father, Alvin Cassano, died in the Twin Towers during 9/11. Adrian, his three brothers, and one sister were left with a hefty insurance policy, and he enlisted in the Marines after.”
“I wouldn’t have guessed Adrian Cassano to be ex-military,” Reggie says.
“Once discharged, he and his brothers moved to Vegas and built the hotel and casino.”
“Be careful, Victoria.” Reggie is leaning back against my bedroom door, conveying a stern look.
“Seriously? What is your deal over this job?” I ask as I zip up my second boot.
“Have you forgotten we’re partners? I can’t be in there with you, and it’s making me crazy.”
“I’m a cop. I earned this detective job because of my ability since they sure as hell don’t give it to women otherwise. I can take care of myself.”
He slides his hand through his curly, dark hair. “That’s what worries me. You think you’re invincible.”

*Teaser Tuesday* Stealing Rose by Monica Murphy

People say the youngest child has it easy, but nothing can be further from the truth. Unlike my two sisters, Violet and Lily, I’m never in the limelight. I just work my butt off for Fleur Cosmetics and get little to no thanks for it. I’ve been pushed too far one too many times, and I’m finally brave enough to do something about it.

Maybe my newfound courage has something to do with the amazing pink and white diamond necklace I wear to the party in Cannes. The instant those dazzling heirloom jewels touch my skin, they excite some deep, aching need inside. And when that guy—that totally gorgeous guy—locks eyes with me, I know this nice girl is going to be naughty.

For once it’s my turn. My turn to say no to my father, to outshine my sisters, to walk away from it all—straight into the arms of a mysterious stranger. But what if Caden is much more than I bargained for? Sure, he makes me feel sexy and free in a way I never have before, but there’s something else I can’t quite place—something dangerous. Maybe our “chance” meeting wasn’t so random. Maybe he was looking for me for a reason. Whatever his motive, there’s no going back now.

And maybe I don’t want to.

Advance praise for Stealing Rose

*Cover Reveal* Make Me Forget by Brandy Lynn

Title: Make Me Forget
Author: Brandy Lynn
Genre: New Adult, Romance
Release Date: February 23, 2015
*Inspired by true events*

Where do you turn when the ones who are supposed to love you most, hurt you?

When is enough, enough?

That is the exact question Chloe Evans had when she escaped her own personal hell that terrifying night. Even though the road to rebuilding her life has been tough, she's spent the last two years trying to mend her battered soul. Doubting that all her efforts are even worth it, she begins to feel she will forever be tied to the man who took everything away from her.

Ryder Matthews is the epitome of what most girls associate with perfection. With his good looks, bad boy persona, multiple tattoos and piercings he is every girl’s fantasy; every girl except Chloe Evans that is. Ryder sees Chloe as a challenge...one that he's more than confident he will win.

Drew Nichols is every girls dream guy. He’s sweet, sincere, trusting, and most of all patient. He’s exactly what Chloe needs in her life, but is he who she wants?

We all have things in life we'd like to forget about. Some bigger than others. When Chloe uses college as her diversion to escape the memories will either of them be able to make her forget?
There’s a huge banner hanging above the entrance that says, Welcome Freshmen. Distracted with reading it, I almost collide with my resident adviser.
Popping her gum she sticks out her hand and says “Hey, I’m Erin, the RA for your floor and you are?”
Wiping my clammy hands on my jeans I stick out my hand, “Chloe Evans.”
She shakes it, then untucks a clipboard from under her arm and flips through the attached stack of papers. “Okay...” she runs her fingers over the pages. “Evans, Chloe... let me see. Here you are. You are in room 306. Third floor,” she replies cheerily.
“Great. Thank you,” I say. Time to unpack. I head back to my car to grab a couple of boxes. Heaving two boxes and a bag out of my trunk, I turn to head up to my dorm when suddenly I lose my grip, my toe hitches on the curb and just before I face-plant on the concrete, I'm caught by two strong arms that pull me back to my feet.
For a moment, all I can see are muscular arms covered in tattoos. I catch a glimpse of the name Matthews written in black Celtic script running the length of his forearm from below his elbow to his wrist. When I look up, his striking cobalt blue eyes distract me from my embarrassment. His jet-black hair looks just long enough for me to run my fingers through it and I'll be damned if that's not exactly what I want to do. His thick lips are spread wide in a charming smile. His features are strong and his jaw line is chiseled, softened only by a day's worth of stubble. He's the paragon of masculine beauty.
Dumbstruck, I flush with embarrassment. I'm staring but who wouldn’t stare at him? He's amused; I can see it in his eyes.
“Tha –Than – Thank you,” I stutter. Geez, Chloe could you sound anymore ridiculous, I scold myself. Get your shit together. Despite the cautioning voices in my head, I hesitate to detach myself from his arms. Somehow I find the strength to step back just a bit.
“No problem, sweetheart. Next time watch those curbs. I may not always be around.” He winks and at first I'm speechless, then almost immediately indignant.
“I am not your sweetheart.” I've never been a fan of nicknames which is why I’m so upset at his callous use of one. Just hearing the word 'sweetheart' makes me cringe. That term is not a term of endearment for me. It brings back memories. Memories that I don’t want unleashed and demons that I don’t want chasing me. I’ve spent years ridding myself of those dark times and I do not want to go backwards.
“Not yet,” he replies. Those two words threaten to make me weak in the knees. His voice is a dark rich baritone, like an audible dessert. He is definitely confident and arrogant, I think to myself. Either way, I am ready to give it back to him.
“Yet? I stare at him questioning with large doe-eyes. I cannot believe the audacity this guy has. “You’re awful confident for just meeting me,” I balk.
"I enjoy a challenge princess," he winks, walking away. Who the fuck was that? And, what the hell just happened to me?
