  WhenImWithYoufull   WhenImWithYou_FrontCover_LoRes
Nate: It’s nearly impossible to be surrounded by love but not understand it. My parents, my sister, and just about everyone around us has no trouble accepting that love. To give your trust to someone else and believe they would die before hurting you. I’ve witnessed it—I’ve seen the power of it—but I’ve also seen the pain. Because for me, I’ve only loved someone I could never have, and my biggest fear is that by giving her my love, all I would do is ruin her. I should have tried harder, but I’m not sure I can because I only feel complete when I’m with her.

Emberlyn: The only time I feel like I belong is when he’s near. His infectious smile warms me straight to my bones. Any insecurities I have vanish with just a wink from him. A sliver of his attention makes me feel invincible. But all it took was one drunken night of truths for me to lose everything I had begun to crave. Now, I’m not sure how to move on because I only feel complete when I’m with him.   He said I was too young. I said he was perfect. He said our families wouldn’t understand. I said we could weather any storm. He said he would ruin me. And he was right.

*Coming Soon* His Kind of Cowgirl by Karen Rock

Would he still love her…if he knew?

Tanner Hayes smashed Claire's life to pieces when he chose the rodeo over her ten years ago. And now he'd wrecked her truck! Fantastic. She'd lost her husband, the family ranch was mired in debt, her father was recuperating from a stroke and her son was being bullied. Why not throw a reckless bull rider into the mix?

All she'd wanted was a safe, stable life. But with Tanner back in town—and staying on her ranch—nothing was safe, or under control. Not the feelings she'd fought so hard to forget. Not the son she was determined to protect. And certainly not her long-held secret…

Everything happened at once and in slow motion.
A crushing jolt shuddered through the truck. Her wheels skidded sideways. She smacked against the window when her pickup rolled down an embankment, as if punched by something large and lethal. Glass rained deadly sharp. The earth tumbled around her, her truck in spin cycle. When a massive tree loomed, the Chevy slammed into it then stilled.
Winded and stunned, she hung upside-down in her lap belt, blood, metallic and warm, on her tongue, a rushing sound whistling in her ears. Her heartbeat changed and grew slow and rolling in darkness. Something hurt, a long way away. Then nothing.
“Ma’am. Ma’am. Are you all right?” A man’s voice shouted, rousing her. She tried turning her head but pain held it in place. When she opened her mouth, silent panic flew out.
“Hold on. I’m getting you out of there.”
Acrid smoke pierced her consciousness. She closed her eyes against the billowing grit.
This wasn’t happening. It was a dream. No. A nightmare.
A tugging motion jerked her right and left, followed by a ripping sound. Large hands halted her sudden fall.
“Got you.”
Her rescuer cradled her against his chest, his breaths heaving beneath her ear. After carrying her some distance, he lowered her slowly to the ground. Grass scraped against her stinging cheeks and she opened her eyes.
“What?” she croaked, then swiped at the trickle leaking from her mouth. A man wearing a cowboy hat hunched over her, his features blurred.
“You’ve been in an accident. We have. Our trucks collided in the intersection.”
“My truck!” She bolted upright and clutched the swirling ground.
An arm snaked around her back and eased her down. “I called the dispatcher. The fire department’s on the way.”
A wail sounded in the distance and Claire wanted to shriek with it.
Her special day. Her anniversary. Ruined. No. Demolished by this…this…
She squinted upward and focused. A dark swirl of hair brushed across the tall man’s forehead; a light scar zigzagged down his square jaw. Recognition zapped through her.
It couldn’t be…
“Hello, Claire.” His mouth went up, just a fraction—the same ready-for-anything smile that had once undone her.
She closed her eyes, heart thudding. Ten years since she’d vowed never to see him again…and now here he stood, two for two in wrecking her life.

Cate Duncan is a promising young therapist, dedicated to her work. But after her mother’s suicide, she is seized by a paralyzing depression. To save her job, Cate agrees to enter a program with Dr. Angeline MacGregor, run by her stern son, Ben, and housed in a repurposed church. Cate doesn’t quite understand what the program entails, but she soon learns that the skills she will develop there may not only help her learn how to cope with her own problems, but will also lead her to a much greater purpose.

The MacGregor Group is a collection of alternative healers whose unconventional approaches include crystals, aura reading and psychics. They know that their life’s work invites skepticism, and welcome the chance to prove naysayers wrong. “Just so I have a baseline,” Vani asked, “what do you already know about parapsychology?”

I bit my thumbnail and considered whether to be honest or diplomatic.

“Go ahead,” Ben quietly urged. “What you really think, remember?

I shot him a “don’t push me” look. “Okay, well,” I began, “all I know is that in grad school, they said it was a pseudoscience that kind of died out in the Eighties. They also said that a lot of scam artists were involved, and it had ties to the occult. And I’ve seen that reality TV show Ghost Trappers; they mention parapsychology on there sometimes.”

“Not bad,” Vani said. “Ghost Trappers is the extent of many people’s exposure. Allow me to tell you what parapsychology really is.” She turned to the board and wrote the definition as she spoke it. “It’s the scientific study of psychological phenomena that cannot be explained by the known laws of nature.”

So it was an actual field of study? I sat up straighter in my chair. “You mean things like aura reading, and being an empath?”

“Exactly.” Vani pointed to the hand she’d drawn. “There are five categories of these phenomena. The first is psychokinesis, in which the mind interacts with other people or objects from a distance. There are several sub-categories—the most well-known being telekinesis—but the only one we use here is psychic healing, which encompasses empathic submergence and empath healing.”

“Empath healing is the technique I told you about earlier,” Ben added.

“Right, I remember,” I said, trying to look cool rather than incredulous. “But wait, telekinesis? Isn’t that moving things with your mind?”

“Yes, although the jury’s still out on whether that exists,” Vani said. “Personally, I’ve never seen any evidence of it.”
“That’s because it’s bogus,” Ben grumbled.

Kai tsk-tsked. “Well, aren’t we judgy this afternoon.”

“As I was saying,” Vani said crisply, “that’s the first category.” She wrote “psychokinesis” along one finger of the hand. “The second category is clairvoyance, or the ability to see and know things about people or objects that others can’t. Aura reading fits in here, along with your other empathic gifts.”

In answer to my questioning look, Ben said, “Your abilities to pick up on other people’s emotions and to form the filaments you told us about.”

I nodded, feigning comprehension.

Vani wrote “clairvoyance” on the second finger. “Third is mediumship, or the ability to communicate with the spirits of the dead. I know you must have heard of that, Cate.”

“Yes.” Those scam psychic hotlines—and any number of scary movies I’d watched in high school that featured psychics sitting in dark rooms, wearing turbans and hoop earrings and staring into crystal balls.

Kai held out his arm and pretended to examine his fingernails. “That’s my area of expertise, in case you were wondering.”

“Oh, wow.” I forced myself to smile and nod. Kai, a medium; that seemed to fit. Anyone who believed they could talk to the dead must have an extremely fertile imagination, and Kai definitely had one if he believed in crystals and totems. Not that I doubted Kai’s sincerity, just his sense of reality.

*New Release & Review* Wild Aces by Marni Mann

Trapper Montgomery
His darkness drew me in.
A mystery with a past I wanted to solve.
He was cold, like ice, but set me on fire.
A heat I hadn't felt in ages.
But when I saw his face, I burned...
In mourning

Brea Bradley
She melted from my voice--shuddered from my touch.
But trembled from the memories
That my face brought back.
She wanted more...
Maybe even him.
I wasn't the hand she counted on.
But I was what she was dealt...

A Wild Ace with no way to win.

I received an advanced copy of this story for an honest review.

The Timber Towers series was one of the best things I read in 2015 so I was beyond thrilled when author Marni Mann announced that she would be spinning off a separate story for smart and sassy secondary character Brea Bradley. Wild Aces will please established fans of The Timber Towers Series but also be a great intro point for readers new to Mann. Exhilarating and touching, Wild Aces is a story not to be missed and I recommend it without reservations.

What I Loved: Wild Aces is a gem of a romance that skillfully blends humor, mystery, suspense, drama and steamy passion. I fell in love with Brea in the Timber Towers Series but the character's hidden depths author Marni Mann exposes in Wild Aces just hit me in the heart. The connection Brea and Trapper build over the course of the story feels incredibly real and strong.

What I Didn't Love: Overall Wild Aces is a top notch read. I would have enjoyed just a smidge more insight into Trapper's past and what went into building his unique business.

Favorite Quotes:

"I'm saying I don't want just a perfect cock anymore. I want a perfect cock with a good man attached to it. And frankly, I don't think that's asking for too much."

"There was something about him I trusted, something deeper than our kiss and the words we'd spoken to each other. I wasn't sure why or how it was even possible after knowing him only a short time, but I wasn't letting those questions hold me back."

"He makes me feel comfortable and nervous as hell at the same time. I don't know what to expect from him... and I like that."

Happy reading.

I push off from the tree, turning to leave the park, when an unexpected sight gives me pause. A man running in my direction. He’s not sprinting, not jogging, but moving at his own custom pace. A pace I decided, in that split second, to call the “holy hot pace.” Because, well, he’s hot. Well over six feet tall, shirtless, in just black running shorts and sneakers. I’ve only ever seen a body that mind-numbingly perfect once. Ever. The sweat-coated ‘holy hot pace’ runner is Sexy Demon. The penthouse-living Upper East Sider who’d dived into the back of my cab a few weeks ago. He’s running a straight path, yet his eyes are everywhere, unfocused, a light frown between his brows. Like he’s searching for something and frustrated at the same time. As he runs by the maple tree, his gaze flicks over me, pauses on me for a beat, and I hold my breath, wondering if he’ll remember me, but those unfocused eyes skip to something else, and he keeps on running, right past me. Shrugging, I make to leave the park again, but then an image of his bare throat, arched back, the same image that’s been taunting me for weeks, flashes before my eyes and my heart skips a beat. Oh Lord, we’re in trouble,’ Rational Lotty sighs. Indeed. Sucking in a deep breath, I make a U-turn, and run after him.

What happened next was totally unpredictable. One second, I was looking at my picture on the desktop, all smiling and beautiful on my graduation day, while the next second, I thought I’d seen a ghost. The face that was looking back at me had a rather distorted face with a leathery texture. The right side of the face was covered in something that was a weird color of yellow and white; it looked like it was made up of play dough, while the left side was all clean, normal and soft. The skin looked leathery, almost gaunt and scary. It was charred at some part of my cheeks and towards my neck. The eyes that stared back at me were the same colors as mine, chocolate brown, and the skin on the normal side of the face looked like my skin as well. It was my face; just a distorted version. I tried to touch the left side of my face, but it felt smooth under my skin. My breathing hitched as I realized that the ghostly skin, the gauntness in the eyes—it was all mine. And then I screamed at the top of my lungs. I saw the ghost in the screen in front open her mouth, but the only noise that I heard was of my own howl. This can’t be me! This can’t be me! I tried to tell myself again and again. The door flung open, and the nurses rushed in, looking around at my source of terror, but she found nothing. She came towards me and glanced at the laptop. Seeing the Photo Booth application open, she quickly, picked up the laptop from my knees and shut the flap. “You’re not supposed to use that yet!” she scolded me as she put the laptop back on the side table. I was having difficulty breathing and my heartbeat was going a mile a minute.
