Captive's Kiss (A Watcher's Kiss Novel) by Sharon Kay

It was only supposed to be one hookup. One hot night to ease the mating urge of his race’s fertile period.

But after scorching, up-against-the-wall sex in a darkened club, Tanner can’t get Saige out of his mind. And when he spots her the next day, in league with an enemy, he’s determined to uncover more about her than her delectable curves.

Saige knows Tanner is one of the good guys. And that’s why she can never see him again.

Her life has crumbled into a horrific turmoil, forced to aid criminals in kidnapping men for bloody arena fights. Held against her will, she has no hope of escape from her captors.

Determination rages through Tanner until he tracks Saige down. But rescuing her from her jailers’ sadistic whims means entering her underground hell. Posing as her victim and locked in a cell, he must find a way to save them both before he is pushed into a fight to the death.

*Captive's Kiss was previously published in the Gathering Darkness boxed set.

I received a copy of this story for an honest review.

Sharon is one of my favorite paranormal romance authors and her new novella set in the world of the Solsti and Watchers doesn't disappoint.  Chock full of action, suspense and scenes full of off the charts hotness, Captive's Kiss is a fun roll coaster ride of a read. Leads Tanner and Saige are engaging and easy to connect with quickly. Their connection felt very real and I loved that though this was a quick story, the progression of their story felt natural.
Established fans of the Solsti Prophecy and Watcher's Kiss books will find Captive's Kiss a solid addition to the world you've come to love. New readers will find an enticing invitation into a rich and rewarding world of stories that will entice and amaze. All in all, a win.
Favorite Quotes:
"Her scent lingered on his skin, a heady combination of hot seduction with an unexpected tendril of promise."

"Joy bloomed in her heart, and in the glow of dawn, she didn't fight it."

"Her lips met his in a tender kiss as their souls surged, binding them in a whirl of bliss and devotion."
Happy reading.

*Review* Pieces (The Patchwork Series #1) by Toni Aleo

In New York City, an underground society of supernatural beings exists, hidden among everyday humans. They don’t know of our activities or any of our secrets.

The districts of the Works are made up of vampires, wolves, shifters, witches, and I’m in the fifth and arguably most important district, the Patchwork. My father is the leader of our group, and he oversees all of the other factions.

As his only daughter, that makes me the princess of it all. Cool, right? Actually…no.

Sure, I live in a mansion and money isn’t an object, but that doesn’t matter because I can’t leave. I have a guard who follows me around 24/7. My father and three older brothers treat me like I’m a fragile piece of glass, never allowed to take an independent step or make any decisions on my own.

It’s beyond frustrating—especially since my father essentially runs my life.

He says what I do, when I do it, how I do it, and all that jazz. He tests his formulas and new techniques on me. I’m a walking science experiment.

I hate it.

I hate my life here.

But then he comes along: Killian.
He’s just some vampire…or so I thought.

But you’ll have to read my story to find out what I mean. To know my secrets.
Until then, though, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Rebecca von Stein.
And I’m a descendant of Dr. Frankenstein.

Welcome to the Works.

I received an advanced copy of this story for an honest review.

A long time fan of Toni Aleo and her Assassin's series, when I heard she was stepping into the world of paranormal romance I was intrigued. How would Toni transition from hot and steamy alphas to the mysterious and spooky unknown? Simple answer - she did it flawlessly.
What I Loved:  Pieces is so energetic and so vivid that I felt like I was watching a big budget Hollywood movie in my mind. A complex world with abundant but easily understood details, I fell in love with the Patchwork and it's "Princess" Rebekah von Stein. Pieces kept me on the edge of my seat and eager for more. If this series doesn't catapult Aleo into more mainstream recognition I'll be surprised.

Favorite Quotes:
"I want to believe that all you need is love. That it will give you everything. Maybe that makes me just a stupid, naive girl. But if it does, then I don't want to be anything else."
"For the first time in my whole life, I feel alive. I feel wanted. I feel like my life is worth living. And I don't know hoe to live without that feeling."
"I've been spoiled with the love only he can give me, and I honestly don't think I can turn my back on that."
Pieces is the perfect set up to a fascinating series with endless possibilities. Author Toni Aleo has me completely hooked on the Patchwork world and I'm dying to see what she has in store for the rest of the series. Check this one out.

Happy reading.

*Review* Game Master (A Skeleton Key Novella) by Scarlett Dawn

Skeleton Key Book Series
One Skeleton Key. Endless Adventures.

Arizona Creed lost her assassin father, and her whole world changed.

Literally.

With one magical skeleton key, Arizona lands in another realm.

Forget Earth. Terlant is the place to be. And Lucifer wants her there, the dashing man with no last name and more secrets than even she has. But love isn’t always enough. Arizona must find purpose in her new life.

The Royal Guard could give Lucifer and Arizona what they desire.

They only need to pass two tests to win the Game and enter the elite Guard.

But is her real test to open her heart to true love?

And will she win her wings to fly into his arms?

Game Master is author Scarlett Dawn's contribution to the Skeleton Key book series. Each book in the series is a standalone fantasy read by a different author and each story comes with the promise of a HEA.  Game Master is a quick, enjoyable read that fantasy fans will love. There's pulse pounding action and as promised - a fun and satisfying HEA.

What I Loved: Arizona Creed is a rock solid heroine and if Scarlett Dawn writes anything else in her POV I will happily read it. Filled with angst but not ruled by it, Arizona has spunk and I totally bought into this teenager falling into another realm and thriving. The action scenes with Arizona and her partner-in-crime Lucifer kept me on the edge of my seat.

What I Didn't Love:
Game Master is heavy on the fantasy/action and light on the love so those looking for heavy romance may be disappointed. A few more scenes of flirtation or a slightly stronger build up to Arizona and Lucifier's romantic relationship would have pushed this novella to an almost perfect read.

Favorite Quotes:

"Simply put - I was a damn scary bitch."

"I physically felt myself splinter. Felt the ripping tear inside my chest. Felt the burning sensation that made my breath catch as memories slowly invaded and began racing until it exploded with all the recollections of our time together."

"He wasn't going to argue. Trust. He had it for me as I did for him."

"I know you're the one for me. My partner. The other half of my soul."

Happy reading.

Synopsis
Three centuries ago, Molly Darling’s ancestors signed a contract in blood—daemon blood—to protect themselves from harm. On the eve she turns nineteen, Molly leaves for her birthday party against her parent’s wishes, sick of their warnings about her “betrothal to a demon.”

Except that she’s very much betrothed, and he’s very much a demon—one who’s only agreed to the nuptials to steal Molly’s ancient daemon powers. Brash, arrogant, and built like a Greek god, Tensley Knight keeps showing up to save Molly from otherworldly attacks, only to insult her a moment later.

As Molly learns more about the demon world, she realizes two things: that her family’s safety depends on a successful marriage, while any chance of freedom she’ll ever have calls for Tensley’s demise.

Yet sometimes Molly spots a tortured soul beyond those liquid grey eyes, and there’s no denying the way her skin tingles when Tensley touches it. In Vein of Love, safety requires sacrifice, foe becomes lover, and one must decide whether to kiss...or to kill.

Excerpt
“What took you so long?” he muttered angrily, taking the cigarette from his lips. A gentle, curling tail of smoke expelled from them. His forehead wrinkled when he did a double take, scanning her exposed skin and messy hair.

She swallowed. “You smoke?”

He hiked a dark brow. “When did you start caring?”

She stared back; something seemed off with him.

He held the cigarette between his index and middle fingers and watched her. “What do you want, Molly?” His voice was low, and a hint of irritation weaved through it.

Do it now. She reached up to her sunglasses and removed them, letting them hit the ground. When her eyes met his, he froze. “I want you,” she said.

He cocked his head to the side. “You want me?” He sounded arrogant, but also a bit suspicious.

She moved slowly, each click of her high heels echoing in the silent apartment. She stood in front of him, running a finger along his bare arm, and jumped at the unexpected jolt of energy from the touch. Her cool expression faltered, heat rolling up her chest, leaving her skin blotchy, but she collected herself and continued gliding her finger along his muscular arm. She used her legs to spread his apart. She placed her trembling hands on his firm chest, pressing her entire length against his.

Just give him a taste, then attack.

“Don’t you want me?” She fluttered her lashes at him.

He eyed her.

She worried it wasn’t working; he hadn’t touched her back. It was like feeling up a damn statue. As stupid as it was, embarrassment took over her. As she straightened up, humiliated, Tensley touched her wrist.

His touch sent energy through her veins.

Oh, oh god.

His lips grazed her cheeks, then her throat. When he tugged her completely against him, she could feel his rigid need beneath her. An intense heat coiled between her legs.

Just a taste...

*New Release & Review* A Midsummer Night's Fling by Eliza Walker

The show must go on, but the price of admission could be her heart.

Sick of her vagabond life in a Broadway touring company, Nicola is ready to settle down. She wants nothing more than to park her suitcase in California, put out feelers for local auditions, and leave her past firmly behind her.

Too bad her past comes knocking on her door her first day home. All six-foot-three, beautiful man of her past named Max. Stupid Max. The mistake Nicola just can’t seem to stop making.

Even before Nicola—fiery, quick-witted, beautiful Nicola—slams the door in his face, Max is in trouble. She will always be the one who got away. Three times. Which makes convincing her to play Titania to his Oberon a bit…awkward.

Though she has zero desire to re-re-rekindle an old flame, Nicola can’t turn down the chance Max is offering: a lead role with the West Coast’s premiere Shakespeare company. But when their first rehearsal kiss disintegrates into a passionate liplock, she’s questioning her sanity and tempted to jump ship—before Max can break her heart again.

Now it’s up to Max to convince her that the torch he’s been carrying is actually an eternal flame.

I received a copy of this story for an honest review.

Theater is a weakness of mine so when I read the synopsis for Eliza Walker's A Midsummer Night's Fling I knew I had to check the story out. I was happy to find a fun second chance romance that was light on the angst and heavy on heat and happiness.

What I Loved: A Midsummer Night's Fling is an incredibly easy read that I was able to finish in one sitting. Max and Nicola have a wonderful connection and their push/pull attraction had me in turns yelling at them and cheering them on. The use of my favorite Shakespearean play, A Midsummer Night's Dream, to highlight the couples journey back to each other was done seamlessly. There is also a treasure trove of interesting secondary characters that I would be excited to hear more from.

What I Didn't Love: Overall A Midsummer Night's Fling is an enjoyable story but for a passionate couple like Max and Nicola I would have loved a little more insight into the early years of their relationship and their initial separation. A few flashbacks would have helped see how much each character grew in their time apart.

Favorite Quotes:

"As soon as her lips touched his, Nicola knew she'd made a terrible mistake. But, wow, did she not give a shit."

"Half the time I want to kill him. Half the time I want to tear his clothes off with my teeth."

"But Juliet had it wrong: the sea could dry up. The bounty was not infinite, not inexhaustible. You could pour out your love to someone, even receive their love in return, and yet still you might find yourself parched in the end, bereft. Alone."

A Midsummer Night's Fling is the first book in a planned Much Ado About Love Series and I will definitely come back and check out with author Eliza Walker has in store with her future stories. Kudo's to Jack's House Publishing for finding this author and I can't wait to check out more gems from this new publishing house.

Happy reading.

The Final Chase

Excerpt
“Heyyyyyyy! You guys ready to crank the heat up in this joint?” I was a crowd pleaser, what could I say? People cheered and looked towards me. My eyes found Jake’s. Oh yeah, bud, it’s on.

“This song goes out to my animal man. All you, kitten.” I winked at him. Giggling, I turned my back towards the crowd.

Dramatic flair? Check.

When the beat to the song began, my hips started swaying. When it kicked up a little, I turned and started moving around more, getting those pelvic thrusts started. Oh yeah, I was going full throttle. People had stopped dancing to watch me.

Seconds later, I was rapping out the lyrics to Bad Touch by Bloodhound Gang. Yeah, I went there. The other blessing was I actually knew the lyrics, so it was effortless for me to dance and sing the song. My hand crept down my stomach and grabbed my invisible nuts at that moment in the song, while I kept my eyes on Jake the whole time. His face was a mixture of amusement and determination.

Soon, I had the crowd singing that they wanted to do it like the animals on the discovery channel.

Pelvic thrust like nobody’s business? Check.

Oh yeah, I was on that stage, giving it my best performance. And I will say I was killing it. Towards the end of the song, I started jumping up and down like the rapper I was, with my hand in the air moving to the beat.

As soon as the song ended, I took a bow, blew Jake a kiss, and took my exit. Which I wish was graceful, but my dance act had apparently shaken those shots in my system like a soda can. Yep. I puked, and tripped down the three stairs. I was a violent puker.

AP new - synopsis.jpg

I'm not a good man.
I'm not a bad man.
But I've made some bad mistakes, made the wrong choices.
Who hasn't? But the consequences are tearing us apart.

I love two people.
I love them differently.
The world tells me I have to choose. Why? Why do I have to choose?
Loving hurts. Dancing heals.

Love makes you soar, makes you fly and sets you free—and then it lets you freefall until you're smashed and bleeding on the ground. Ultimately, love is the worst thing that can happen to a human being.

Im my opinion.
I love two people.
I love them differently.
One is a man.
One is a woman.
And they are brother and sister.

**** A stand alone novel in the best-selling Rhythm Series. ****

AP new - excerpt.jpg

“Two minutes to curtain,” called out the stage manager.
We all hustled to take our places for the first number, and Ash walked with Laney as she wheeled herself to a spot where she could watch from the wings.
I felt a shiver of anticipation skitter across my skin, and I stretched my arms over my head before shaking them out, keeping flexible, keeping moving.
“God, I’ll never get enough of this,” whispered Sarah. “I hate it and I love it.”
I knew exactly what she meant. The nerves never really stopped, but the second I stepped on stage, adrenaline and muscle memory took over. My body would respond before my brain felt the fear of dancing in front of a thousand strangers.
I could hear the audience, hear their breaths, feel their excitement, feel the heat rolling forward from the press of bodies.
And then the house lights sank and the theater dropped into darkness, the electricity of expectancy lighting a fuse.
Al, the conductor, tapped his baton, and there was a collective breath as the band prepared to play, fingers hovering above keys and strings, the drummer poised, tension in his arms.
Then the music blasted out in an explosion of sound and light, and I was on stage, alive, powerful, doing what I was born to do.
I became the role, I lived the dance, blood pounding through my veins, my muscles coiled and released as I lunged and leapt, my arms sweeping through the space around me, filling it with spirals of strength and emotion.
Nothing could beat this feeling, this intensity, this desire to drink from the well of life.
And it was magnificent.
For a split second, I caught Ash’s eye, and we shared something that only another dancer can understand—a connection, an emotion so fleeting, I could have dreamed it.
I feel it too, brother.
Two hours later, we stood bathed in sweat under the bright stage lights, smiles on our faces and tears in our eyes, soaking up applause as the crowd rose to their feet, cheers and whistles soaring above the roar. My chest heaved from the exertion, but also from the deep emotion that dancing always brought to me, and I knew that everyone on this stage felt the exact same way.
Sarah stood next to me, tears running down her face, happy tears; tears of achievement and joy; tears of satisfaction and sorrow that it was all over. The end of a performance was a birth—the memories of the audience would live on—and a death, too, as another show ended. So tonight, we were celebrating and grieving.
“I’m going to miss this so fucking much,” she sobbed, staring up at me, then out at the cheering crowd. “God, I’m going to miss you, Luka, you bloody great hunk of sexy Slovenian.”
“I’ll miss you too, buča,” I said sincerely, leaning down to kiss her cheek, tasting the salt of her tears.
All the dancers linked hands, raising our arms in the air as we took our final bow. Ash stepped forward, looking down at the band and applauding them, too. Then he clasped his hands together and pressed them to his heart, before waving to the audience and leaving the stage.
Yveta, Gary and Oliver stepped forward with me and Sarah to take our bows as co-leads, then we too left the stage.
And it was all over.
The applause drained away as the curtain fell for the last time and the house lights came up.
Then it was the slow descent to normalcy as we peeled away the roles we’d played, along with our costumes, wigs and makeup.

I received a copy of this story for an honest review.

What I Loved: Jane Harvey-Berrick rights amazingly beautiful yet realistic stories about life and love and Luka is a perfect example of that. There is joy and passion as well as pain and regret. Luka is a touching story of a man attempting to make the most of his life while navigating around numerous curveballs life throws at him. Luka made me feel joy, sadness, anger, and hope. This is a a completely non-traditional love that caught me off-guard and I loved it for that.

What I Didn't Love: Luka ends with a bit of ambiguity about the main character's life and future that kept me from completely embracing the story as a whole. I don't always need a happy ending but a bit more closure would have pushed this to an almost perfect angsty read.

Favorite Quotes:

"Love hurt. Love flayed you raw and left your skin hanging from your body in bloody strips. It left you branded and burned."

"I meet someone, and there's a connection or there isn't. It doesn't matter if they're male or female, gay or straight. It's a connection."

"Not everything can be mended. Not every mistake can be put right. I'm not a good man. I'm not a bad man. I've made some bad mistakes, made the wrong choices. Who hasn't? But I'll do my best, because I have a reason to do it."

*REVIEW* Dirty Deals (The Complete Sexy Manhattan Fairytale) Standalone Romance by Michelle A. Valentine

The King Always Gets His Way.

Women, business, pleasure: When I want it, I get it.
I’m never denied.
Including her.
I will break her.
I will show her who the king of this city really is.
The Feisty Princess of Manhattan will learn I am not a man that can be tempted.
No matter how damn bad I want her in my bed.

Dirty Deals: The Complete Sexy Manhattan Story

I received a copy of this story for an honest review.

Holy hotness, Dirty Deals (The Complete Sexy Manhattan Fairytale) is just the wild and crazy read to shake out the cobwebs and get your blood pumping. If you're faint of heart and not a fan of foul language this is NOT the story for you. If you like your leads dirty and willing to play all of the angles to come out on top - welcome aboard.

Every now and then I come across a story that has me going "Oh my God, Oh my God" out loud while I read. That was Dirty Deals. Solid banter, multi-dimensional characters that I wanted to punch one minute and hug the next, a new and unique plot - I was sold. Originally crafted as a novella series (Naughty King, Fiesty Princess, Dirty Royals), Dirty Deals keeps the steady and exciting pace required for great novellas and brings the story as a whole to a very satisfying conclusion.

Favorite Part I Quotes:

"She's exactly my favorite type of woman to fuck: beautiful and bitchy. When I take her, I can't allow myself to enjoy it. I won't give her that satisfaction."

"I swear there's a handbook somewhere that all attractive men are given, teaching them it's a must to be an egotistical womanizer who jumps when any opportunity to stick their dick in something comes their way regardless of the consequences."

Favorite Part II Quotes:

"She's one of the most beautiful creatures I've ever seen. Too bad she's also one of the biggest bitches on the planet."

"It's wrong of me to want her to feel something for me because I know that I'm about to break her heart. But I'm a selfish bastard and I'll hope for it anyway."

Favorite Part III Quotes:

“I’m not going anywhere. You said you love me, and I believe you. That’s enough to keep me by your side always.”

“This is it. It’s now or ever. It’s time for the Naughty King to get his Feisty Princess.”

Dirty Deals is an amazingly fun and easy read that I highly recommend with zero reservations. Don’t miss out on Alexander King and Margo Buchanan’s hate/love/hate/love story. You’ll be missing out on one of the best reads of 2016.

Happy reading.
